Job summary

Altec is seeking a field equipment mechanic in the US/Canada region. The role involves replacing electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical parts, using manuals and support resources to troubleshoot and identify parts for repair, and completing Unit Condition Inspections.

You’ll maintain a safe, organized workspace, adhere to Altec safety practices, and communicate issues that could affect customer relations. Prior heavy equipment experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to work overtime as needed.
• Safety-focused mindset and adherence to procedures.
• Ability to drive and use basic computer tools.

Responsibilities

• Replace electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components on equipment.
• Use operator, parts, and maintenance manuals and resources for troubleshooting.
• Perform Unit Condition Inspections and prepare reports.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow safety practices.
• Inform supervisors of issues affecting customer relations.
• Complete required documents with accurate information.
• Demonstrate Altec values in daily work.
• Other duties as assigned.

Hourly rate and potential for overtime varies relative to experience and location. Job openings exist across the U.S. and Canada.

Pay: $30-35/hr depending on experience and skill

The Ideal Background:

• Experience with aerial devices, digger derricks, chippers, cranes; or construction, mining, farm equipment such as excavators, skid steers, dozers or tractors; or military heavy equipment such as the MRAP vehicle, HMEE, or tanks; aircraft and aerospace or ground support equipment (AGE/GSE) or similar
• Previous experience as a mechanic or technician, with a focus on heavy equipment
• Education in mechanics, electrical and/or hydraulic systems

The Job:

• Perform replacement of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components
• Utilize all technical support resources (such as operator, parts, and maintenance manuals, HowFactory, etc.) in troubleshooting, determining procedures, and identifying parts needed for repair
• Perform Unit Condition Inspections and Reports
• Maintain work area in a safe, clean, and orderly manner
• Perform all tasks in a manner fully consistent with Altec Safety practices and procedures
• Advise supervisors of situations that may impact a customer relationship
• Provide accurate and sufficient information on all required documents
• Demonstrate Altec Company Values
• All other duties as assigned

The Requirements:

• High School Diploma, state‑approved High School Equivalency, or GED
• Strong interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills
• Physical effort to move objects and tools that may weigh up to 75 pounds; frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling
• A high level of dexterity
• As needed, provide basic tools per the Altec tool policy
• Drive motor vehicles
• Develop basic computer skills with Microsoft office
• Ability to support customer by working overtime
• Advocate safety in everything we do
