Job summary

BD is seeking an Equipment Maintenance Technician to ensure reliable operation of high-speed automated manufacturing equipment for medical devices. The role includes PMs, troubleshooting, repairs, and mentoring associates to support continuous improvement in a GMP/SAP environment.

The position is 2nd shift, requiring hands-on maintenance, setup/changeovers, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to meet safety, quality, and production goals.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree preferred in Mechanical or Electrical Technology.
• Experience: 3 years in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA): basic communication, teamwork, problem-solving.
• Technical Knowledge: mechanical, electrical, control systems, robotics, automation.

Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on maintenance and improvement on high-speed automated equipment.
• Conduct preventive maintenance audits and identify improvement opportunities.
• Troubleshoot and repair equipment; escalate major issues.
• Operate, set up, adjust, and changeover production equipment.
• Document PM audits and corrective actions in SAP.
• Monitor production quality, minimize downtime, and reduce waste.
• Maintain equipment logs and coordinate major repairs with teams.
• Verify machine functionality and safety guards before operation.

Job Description

The Equipment Maintenance Technician will be responsible for ensuring optimal performance and reliability of high-speed automated equipment used in the manufacturing of medical devices. This role includes performing preventive maintenance (PM), troubleshooting, and repairs, while supporting production teams with technical issues. The technician will also mentor associates, promote continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with BD quality systems, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Regular, punctual attendance and adherence to BD Values are essential.

Primary Duties and Authorities include, but are not limited to:

• Perform hands-on maintenance and improvement activities on high-speed automated equipment.

• Conduct regular preventive maintenance audits and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

• Troubleshoot and repair equipment; escalate major issues to the manufacturing technical lead.

• Operate, set up, adjust, and perform changeovers on production equipment.

• Monitor and maintain production quality, minimize downtime, and reduce waste.

• Document PM audits and corrective actions electronically in SAP.

• Analyze equipment failure trends and update PM work orders accordingly.

• Maintain equipment to meet quality and quantity standards, including cleaning and adjustments.

• Keep detailed equipment logs for downtime and maintenance activities.

• Coordinate major repairs with Maintenance, Engineering, and other technical teams.

• Ensure completion and closure of PM tasks in SAP.

• Verify machine functionality and safety guards before operation.

• Monitor production machinery for optimal performance and safety compliance.

• Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE usage, and report hazards promptly.

• Collaborate with production, engineering, quality, and maintenance teams to achieve operational goals.

• Maintain a clean, organized work area in compliance with GMP and 5S standards.

• Utilize hand tools and basic electrical/mechanical tools for maintenance tasks.

• Use his technical knowledge and experience in programming and troubleshooting to resolve issues and to improve the performance of the automated machines. Based in the following technologies:

• Robots: FANUC and Stäubli (strong experience with pick and place applications)

• Strong knowledge in Rockwell Automation Software: Studio 5000 , Factory Talk Machine Edition, etc.

• Strong knowledge in Servo Motion Controls System as Kinetix Servo drives or similar

• Knowledge in development and programming of Vision Systems such as Cognex (Insight 5000, 2000, micro, Keyence CVX, IV).Experience in ultrasonic welding.
  InkJet printers (Domino, Lynx, Markem Image, Keyence).

• Experience in thermos transfer printers, flexographic printers and digital printers.

• Strong knowledge in pneumatics and electro-pneumatic, mechanical knowledge, electronics.
  

2nd Shift

Education and Experience:

Required: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred: Associate Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Technology

Experience: 3 years in a manufacturing environment preferred

Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively and independently

Problem-Solving: Basic troubleshooting and decision-making skills
