Job summary

Ochsner is seeking a patient transport role to move admitted patients to rooms, deliver records, and support nursing units with safe transport throughout the hospital. The position emphasizes compassion, privacy, and reliable teamwork to maintain smooth patient flow.

The role requires basic literacy, ability to enter data, and comfort with Windows-based systems. Training will cover all safety and departmental procedures.

Qualifications

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
• Proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
• Basic reading, writing and math skills.

Responsibilities

• Transports newly admitted patients to assigned rooms in a timely manner.
• Delivers clinic records, admit forms, and charge cards to nursing units and ancillary departments.Locates and maintains equipment used in the department.
• Transports patients to/from Hospital/Clinic ancillary departments via wheelchairs, stretchers or beds as requested in a safe and caring manner.
• Transports discharged patients and belongings from nursing units and ancillary departments.
• Takes responsibility for personal development and required training.
• Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
