Job summary

Nyobolt seeks an Equipment Engineering Technician to support battery cell development at our Bedford, MA facility. You will maintain and repair lab and pilot cell equipment to keep the development line running and coordinate with engineers on complex issues.

In this hands-on role, you’ll troubleshoot with precision, document results clearly, and help implement improvements while working with gloveboxes, coaters, and other high‑value systems. Nyobolt offers competitive pay and strong benefits.

Qualifications

• 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience maintaining, repairing, and rebuilding complex mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment in a lab, manufacturing, or field service environment.
• Comfortable working on intricate, high-value systems where errors have real consequences; precise without being slow, with hand- and power-tool skills.
• Familiarity with basic electrical systems and ability to identify failure points and determine when a repair is within scope.

Responsibilities

• Own the preventative maintenance and repair of lab and pilot cell assembly equipment, including gloveboxes, coaters, calendars, slurry pumps, ultrasonic welders, and pouch sealers, proactively identifying and reducing risk before it becomes failure.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures systematically: decompose the problem, isolate variables, verify progress at each step, and elevate before a recoverable issue becomes a loss, drawing in an engineer or vendor as needed for anything involving controls, HMIs, or sensor logic.
• Execute equipment setups and changeovers accurately and efficiently to support shifting cell development program priorities.
• Document and simplify maintenance procedures so institutional knowledge is captured and transferable and suggest improvements that reduce the equipment maintenance and repair burden.
• Partner with the engineering team on new equipment, fixtures, and tooling, supporting installation and commissioning, and serve as the go-to equipment resource for engineers and scientists when troubleshooting crosses into lab or build cell assembly systems.

This role maintains and repairs the equipment that keeps electrode pilot manufacturing and pilot cell assembly line running - vacuum pumps, ovens, cell stackers, roll-to-roll stampers, and related systems. This is a hands‑on role for someone comfortable troubleshooting complex equipment, documenting their work clearly, and coordinating with engineers when a job calls for it.

Position responsibilities

• Own the preventative maintenance and repair of lab and pilot cell assembly equipment, including gloveboxes, coaters, calendars, slurry pumps, ultrasonic welders, and pouch sealers, along with workshop equipment such as drill presses, grinders, and bandsaws, proactively identifying and reducing risk before it becomes failure.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures systematically: decompose the problem, isolate variables, verify progress at each step, and elevate before a recoverable issue becomes a loss, drawing in an engineer or vendor as needed for anything involving controls, HMIs, or sensor logic.

• Familiarity with basic electrical systems: able to identify likely failure points and determine when a repair is within scope versus when a specialist is needed.
• Exposure to control systems, HMIs, or sensor networks and 3D printer experience are a plus: comfortable troubleshooting with an engineer or vendor remotely, without needing to program these independently.
• Collaborative and reliable; contributes to a team that holds itself to a high standard.

Physical Job Requirements

• Capable of working in a laboratory and dry room environment that may involve walking, bending, and reaching.
• Comfortable using computers and office equipment to communicate, manage data, and document results.
• Must adhere to lab safety protocols, including required personal protective equipment (PPE) and procedures.
