Job summary

Boston Scientific is seeking an Artificial Intelligence Intern in Maple Grove, MN to assist senior engineers on AI-based image inspections on the factory floor. The role is onsite five days a week for 12 weeks, with a May 2027 start window and relocation/housing assistance may apply.

Projects involve high-resolution 2D imaging, 3D laser scanning, Visual AI, and other emerging technologies. You’ll contribute across concepting, data collection, development, and testing in a regulated manufacturing

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS/CE/SE.
  • Must be able to start internship on May 17 or May 24, 2027 for 12 weeks.
  • Experience with AI/ML, machine vision, or related projects.
  • Reliable transportation to/from work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers with AI-driven image inspection systems.

  • Manage 2–3 concurrent projects with clear priorities and timely delivery.
  • Test vision systems and document results accurately.

  • Learn and apply best practices in ML, CV, and automation in a regulated environment.

About the role:

The Artificial Intelligence Intern’s job will be to assist senior engineers with the execution of Artificial Intelligence projects targeted towards image-based quality inspections on the factory floor. These projects may be in various phases: concepting, image collection, software development, and testing. The focus is on practical applications of emerging technologies such as high-resolution 2D imaging, 3D Laser Scanning, Visual AI, and other technologies on the factory floor.

  • Support senior engineers in the development and execution of AI-driven image inspection systems for manufacturing applications
  • Contribute to various project phases, including concept development, image acquisition, software implementation, and system testing
  • Manage 2–3 concurrent projects, maintaining clear priorities and delivering results on schedule
  • Conduct independent testing of vision systems and algorithms, documenting results with accuracy and clarity
  • Assist in integrating technologies such as high-resolution 2D imaging, 3D laser scanning, and Visual AI into factory-floor solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand inspection requirements and translate them into practical, scalable solutions
  • Apply programming skills to develop and refine machine vision tools and inspection workflows
  • Learn and apply best practices in machine learning, computer vision, and automation within a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance inspection accuracy, system reliability, and operational efficiency
Required Qualifications:
  • Current rising junior or rising senior (grad dates between Dec 2027 - May 2029)
  • Pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Must be able to start internship on May 17th or 24th, 2027 and work for 12 weeks
  • Must have reliable transportation to/from work.
  • Former Boston Scientific Intern
  • Experience using a variety of programming languages such as Python, Kotlin, or Java
  • Experience doing design projects (multi-semester projects preferred)
  • Previous hands-on work experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or machine vision
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Medical device industry experience
  • Able to learn independently about new technologies or platforms
  • Able to work and collaborate with team members
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Experience with Society of Automotive Engineers, Robotics, or other extracurricular project teams.
