Job summary

Woodstock Sterile Solutions seeks an Equipment Engineer to specify, procure, install, and implement new packaging equipment at our Woodstock facility. You’ll support aseptic blow-fill-seal lines, identify cost-saving opportunities, and strengthen operational performance.

The role requires a BS in engineering, 5+ years of equipment engineering, and experience with packaging equipment in regulated industries. Occasional after-hours support and up to 10% travel are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • At least five years of Equipment Engineering experience; eight to ten years preferred.
  • Experience with packaging equipment in pharmaceutical, food, or cosmetic industry is a plus, in cGMP environments.

Responsibilities

  • Test and install new manufacturing equipment.
  • Support equipment through validation, start-up, and continuous process improvement.
  • Create drawings for equipment tooling and packaging materials used in manufacturing.
  • Write and facilitate approval of user requirements, change-control documents, design specs, and acceptance-test docs for equipment projects.
  • Develop and maintain project plans and manage equipment-related projects from inception through closeout.
  • Prepare RFQs, review bids, and recommend equipment vendors.
  • Define, evaluate, and communicate equipment requirements to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide engineering support after hours and on weekends for 24x7 operations.
  • Travel up to 10% for FAT or equipment evaluations.

Position Summary

The Equipment Engineer is responsible for specifying, procuring, installing, and implementing new equipment at the Woodstock Sterile Solutions facility, with a strong focus on packaging equipment. This role supports all aseptic blow-fill-seal and packaging lines and identifies short- and long-term opportunities to reduce costs, improve manufacturing efficiency, and strengthen operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

Test and install new manufacturing equipment.

Support equipment through validation, start-up, and continuous process improvement.

Create drawings for equipment tooling and package materials used in manufacturing.

Write and facilitate approval of user requirements, change-control documents, design specifications, and acceptance-test documents for equipment projects.

Develop and maintain project plans and manage equipment-related projects from inception through closeout.

Compile, develop, and maintain a current equipment specification library using project experience and lessons learned.

Prepare requests for quotation based on user-requirements specifications, review bids, and recommend vendors for equipment projects.

Define, evaluate, and communicate equipment requirements effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.

Serve as a key resource for troubleshooting technical, machine-based issues in manufacturing.

Provide periodic phone and/or in-person engineering support after hours and on weekends to support 24x7 operations.

Develop strategic plans to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce costs through automation solutions.

Travel up to 10% to perform Factory Acceptance Testing and/or identify appropriate equipment.

Maintain the effectiveness of Quality System components relevant to the position.

Identify, evaluate, and manage risk to ensure product quality, and communicate risk policies and processes throughout the organization.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline and experience.

Experience

At least five years of Equipment Engineering experience required; eight to ten years preferred.

Knowledge of change control and validation principles desired.

Experience with packaging equipment in the pharmaceutical, food, or cosmetic industry is a plus, including pouching equipment, cartoners, labeling equipment, scanners, and vision systems.

Experience working in a cGMP-controlled environment.

Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or professional project-management experience is a plus.

Knowledge & Skills

Demonstrated intermediate mathematical aptitude and strong mechanical aptitude.

High level of attention to detail and excellent documentation skills.

Strong written, verbal, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Proficiency with business computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.

Ability to interact effectively with suppliers, internal managers, and senior management.

Ability to work independently on multiple projects and contribute effectively in a team environment.

Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, and schedule-based instructions.

Ability to perform timely risk assessments and act accordingly.

Familiarity with cGMP principles and safe work practices, with the ability to quickly learn and apply them.

Willingness to share knowledge, listen actively, simplify processes, act ethically, and drive improvement.

Ability to read, write, and speak clear English.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Ability to stand for up to 10 hours per day.

Frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, reading, computer use, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, listening, writing, and bending.

Occasional walking on inclines or uneven terrain, balancing, and carrying.

Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.

Work may require protective equipment and awareness of personal safety and the safety of others.
