Job summary

Quantum Computing Inc. in Morrisville, NC seeks an Equipment Engineer to lead reliability, uptime, and continuous improvement of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. The role is hands-on, partnering with technicians, process engineers, and vendors to maximize tool uptime and process stability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of semiconductor manufacturing or equipment engineering experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, vacuum, and process systems.
  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics, P&IDs, utility drawings, and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain equipment engineering and maintenance processes, procedures, and documentation in accordance with quality standards.
  • Lead equipment reliability and uptime efforts across semiconductor manufacturing operations.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of equipment, process, and reliability issues.
  • Review and respond to OCAPs, FDC signals, tool alarms, and blocked modules on a daily basis.
  • Develop maintenance execution plans and coordinate activities with maintenance technicians and equipment vendors.
  • Analyze tool trace data, performance metrics, and process trends to proactively identify and address equipment concerns.
  • Define, monitor, and improve equipment performance KPIs, including uptime, utilization, reliability, and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Support equipment installation, qualification, commissioning, upgrades, and optimization activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement, cost reduction, and equipment performance initiatives.
  • Create training materials and provide hands‑on training for maintenance technicians and new engineers.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for equipment‑related technical issues.

Scope of the Job:

The Equipment Engineer is responsible for the reliability, performance, maintenance, and continuous improvement of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This role serves as the technical lead for equipment-related activities, partnering closely with technicians, vendors, process engineers, and operations teams to maximize tool uptime, improve process stability, and support production goals. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with semiconductor manufacturing experience who can independently troubleshoot complex equipment issues, analyze performance data, lead improvement initiatives, and mentor maintenance technicians.

Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Establish and maintain equipment engineering and maintenance processes, procedures, and documentation in accordance with quality standards.
  • Lead equipment reliability and uptime efforts across semiconductor manufacturing operations.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis of equipment, process, and reliability issues.
  • Review and respond to OCAPs, FDC (Fault Detection & Classification) signals, tool alarms, and blocked modules on a daily basis.
  • Develop maintenance execution plans and coordinate activities with maintenance technicians and equipment vendors.
  • Analyze tool trace data, performance metrics, and process trends to proactively identify and address equipment concerns.
  • Define, monitor, and improve equipment performance KPIs, including uptime, utilization, reliability, and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Support equipment installation, qualification, commissioning, upgrades, and optimization activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement, cost reduction, and equipment performance initiatives.
  • Create training materials and provide hands‑on training for maintenance technicians and new engineers.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for equipment‑related technical issues.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers and service providers to resolve equipment issues and improve tool performance.
  • Support Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality initiatives while maintaining compliance with all procedures.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of semiconductor manufacturing or equipment engineering experience.
  • Experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing equipment in one or more of the following areas:
    • Thin Films
    • Wet & Dry Etch
    • Photolithography
    • CMP (Chemical Mechanical Planarization)
  • Experience troubleshooting complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, vacuum, and process systems.
  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics, P&IDs, utility drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical and statistical problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret and generate safety procedures, maintenance instructions, operating procedures, and technical documentation.
Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor fabrication, packaging, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with semiconductor equipment installation, qualification, maintenance, and optimization.
  • Familiarity with: MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), SPC (Statistical Process Control), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning)
  • Experience with equipment monitoring systems, trace data analysis, and process control methodologies.
  • Knowledge of laboratory, chemical, gas delivery, and cleanroom safety procedures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and engineering reporting tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision.
Additional Preferred Skills:
  • 5+ years of semiconductor manufacturing or equipment engineering experience.
  • Experience working in semiconductor fabrication facilities and cleanroom environments.
  • Experience with equipment installations, startup, and commissioning projects.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor process integration and equipment reliability best practices.
  • Experience mentoring maintenance technicians or leading technical initiatives.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement and cost‑reduction projects.

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Frequent handling of tools, components, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 45 lbs.
  • Flexible to work alternate shifts based on business needs.
  • Position requires high level of daily physical activity and movement.
