Job description

Overview

The Equipment and Controls Technician (E&C Tech) is based at Kinder Morgan's Tennessee Gas Pipeline (TGP) Libertyville Compressor Station. This Monday‑through‑Friday position includes on‑call responsibilities nights and weekends. Primary Purpose

Implements and maintains electrical power circuits and equipment, control and automation systems, and electronic and pneumatic equipment used in pipeline, compressor stations, terminals, pump stations, plant operations, and measurement facilities.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Install, inspect, maintain, operate, troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic equipment, completing all required documentation.
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks on pumps, compressors, drivers, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Conduct inspection and maintenance checks on all control systems.
  • Identify, report, and correct safety and environmental concerns.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, regulatory and tariff requirements.
  • Demonstrate performance toward operational excellence.
  • Mentor fellow employees when appropriate.
  • Maintain electrical switchgear and power distribution.
  • Perform advanced engine, compressor, and pump analytical testing; lead efforts to develop and implement changes based on testing results.
  • Assist corrosion and engineering personnel with evaluation, development, implementation, and maintenance of facility grounding systems.
  • Install, analyze, and repair security/intrusion systems.
  • Provide general upkeep and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Oversee construction and/or maintenance activities performed by third parties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements
  • Two‑year associate degree in a job‑related technical field or equivalent work experience.
Experience / Specific Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of National Electric Codes.
  • Proficiency with electronic test instruments.
  • Knowledge of process controls and gas‑processing fundamentals.
  • Experience preparing electrical circuit drawings.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints and diagrams.
  • Experience applying and interpreting results from common electrical measurement instruments (voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, oscilloscope, etc.).
  • Knowledge of company policies and practices and regulatory and tariff requirements.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record to the company and its insurers.
  • May be required to possess a commercial driver’s license, drive a company commercial vehicle, and comply with commercial vehicle regulations.
  • May be required to attain and maintain job‑related certifications.
Competencies, Skills, And Abilities
  • Respond to and address callouts and emergencies within 45 minutes during and after business hours, including overnight, carrying a communication device.
  • Travel required.
  • Overtime may be required and is anticipated.
  • Job planning and prioritizing.
  • Intermediate computer skills, including MS Office, operating systems, and company software.
  • Basic math skills and strong verbal and written communication.
  • Customer focus.
  • Ability to work with a team, follow direction, maintain schedules, and adhere to work rules.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
  • Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions.
  • Frequent entry into confined spaces, climbing to and working from elevated platforms, excavated areas, ladders, stairwells, walkways, etc.
  • Lift a minimum of 20 pounds in awkward positions; lift 50 pounds from floor to waist occasionally.
  • Work in low‑lit areas.
  • Availability for shift work when applicable.
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Knowledge
  • Five years of experience operating and maintaining treating plants and compressors.
  • Experience with safe handling of flammable gases, liquids, and high‑pressure systems.
  • Experience with electronic equipment, high‑pressure gas, processing equipment, pumps, and reciprocating or gas turbine engines and compressors.
  • Knowledge of Wonderware software.
Pay Range

USD $46.05 – USD $64.38 per year.

Successful candidates will be required to clear a drug screen and a complete background check within a specified period after an offer is extended.
