Job summary

Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists in Elmont, NY is seeking a licensed veterinary technician II to join our team. The LVT will support equine patient care across surgery, anesthesia, radiology, and other services, working with clinicians, veterinary students, and technicians.

The role requires NY licensure (or eligibility), an associates degree in veterinary technology, and at least 1 year of equine experience, with duties spanning patient care, imaging, and clinical operations.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited institution and NY licensure (or eligible) with at least 1 year of experience or equivalent.
• Experience working with equine animals.
• Ability to communicate clearly with hospital staff, clients, and clinicians.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, high-pressure environment.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, stay organized, and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Willingness to mentor others and contribute to education.
• Ability to meet physical demands including standing, lifting, and restraining animals up to 50 pounds; may jog horses for lameness exams.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and assist with case flow, exams, emergencies, and pre/post-procedure nursing care.
• Assist with surgical procedures and anesthesia preparation, monitoring, and equipment maintenance.
• Perform and assist with diagnostic imaging procedures (radiography, standing MRI, nuclear scintigraphy, CT, ultrasound).
• Maintain clinical equipment, manage supplies, support students/externs, assist with research samples, and participate in after-hours coverage.
