Job description

McKinlay & Peters Equine Hospital (MPEH) is seeking an equine surgeon to build and grow a surgical referral service within an established, full-service equine practice serving Eastern Washington and North Idaho.

This is an opportunity for an entrepreneurial, confident veterinarian with a strong interest in surgery and sports medicine who wants to shape a growing service line. The caseload includes elective and emergency surgery, arthroscopy, fracture repair, tendon and ligament injuries, trauma and laceration repair, and orthopedic conditions in foals—with significant opportunity to expand based on your interests and expertise.

The Opportunity

• Build and grow a surgical referral caseload and service line
• Strong focus on surgery, with sports medicine opportunities
• Elective and emergency procedures with room to expand
• Flexible scheduling, including potential for a non-traditional or part-time schedule
• Collaborative nine-doctor team, including a boarded internist, with experienced technicians and support staff
• Mentorship and collaboration with other practices and specialists

The Hospital

MPEH operates two locations serving the Inland Northwest, with the Newman Lake hospital focused on lameness, surgery and critical care. Facilities include digital radiography, dynamic endoscopy and gastroscopy, a dedicated surgery suite, isolation barn, rehabilitation services, and farrier/podiatry services. The Colbert location also offers breeding and semen collection.

We are seeking a board-certified surgeon or surgery residency-trained veterinarian with strong communication skills, sound clinical judgment, and the initiative to help build a program. We value ambition and entrepreneurship alongside collaboration, teamwork and exceptional client care.

• $145,000–$175,000 annual salary, based on experience, education, certifications, skills, geographic location and internal equity
• Production bonus eligibility based on collections and eligibility criteria
