Job summary

SierTeK Ltd is seeking an Epidemiologist to support USAFAMS/AMWD initiatives at Joint Base San Antonio, TX. The role develops secure data pipelines, conducts epidemiologic analyses, and translates health surveillance data into actionable insights to improve aeromedical waiver decisions and force readiness.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Epidemiology.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in epidemiology or a related public health field.
  • Current or ability to obtain HIPAA training for handling protected health information.
  • Advanced analytical skills in population health analytics, health surveillance, epidemiologic study design, and statistical analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and conducting analyses using health surveillance, healthcare, or military datasets.
  • Strong proficiency with SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide, SQL and relational databases, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft SQL Server, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience using SAS Enterprise Guide and/or SQL.
  • Experience developing and maintaining analytical datasets and supporting data pipeline activities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing technical reports and presentations.
  • Ability to document programming code and analytical processes following established programming standards.
  • Signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) prior to performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain AMWD data systems, processes, and data repositories.
  • Design, maintain, validate, and support secure data pipelines between AMWD systems and the DHA AVHE.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, security, accessibility, and HIPAA compliance.
  • Support planning and execution of epidemiologic investigations by assessing data availability, quality, and feasibility.
  • Assist users in accessing and interpreting AWARE products, dashboards, publications, and datasets.
  • Perform validation and quality assurance to verify data pipeline performance and outputs.
  • Collect, integrate, manage, and administer healthcare and operational data from multiple military databases.
  • Develop datasets supporting statistical modeling, epidemiologic analyses, and publications.
  • Perform descriptive statistical analyses using SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide, SQL, and related tools.
  • Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, presentations, and briefing materials.
  • Present study findings to government leadership and professional groups.
  • Provide technical support for MS Windows, Office, SQL Server, and Adobe software.
  • Document programming code and workflows per USAFSAM standards.
  • Support knowledge transfer via documentation, briefings, and customer engagement.

Job description

Overview

SierTeK is seeking an Epidemiologist to support an opportunity at Joint Base San Antonio, TX. The position supports the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) and the Aeromedical Waiver Division (AMWD). This role develops and maintains secure data pipelines, conducts epidemiologic analyses, and translates health surveillance data into actionable insights to improve aeromedical waiver decisions and force readiness. The successful candidate will collaborate with epidemiologists, data scientists, clinicians, and military stakeholders to manage military health data, develop analytical products, support scientific research, and enhance evidence-based decision-making across the Department of the Air Force.

Essential Job Functions
  • Develop and maintain expertise in AMWD data systems, processes, and data repositories.
  • Design, maintain, validate, and support secure data pipelines between AMWD systems and the Defense Health Agency (DHA) AVHE.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, security, accessibility, and compliance with HIPAA and applicable data use agreements.
  • Support planning and execution of epidemiologic investigations by assessing data availability, quality, and feasibility.
  • Assist users in accessing and interpreting Analysis of Waiver Risk Evidence (AWARE) products, including dashboards, publications, and approved datasets.
  • Perform validation and quality assurance activities to verify data pipeline performance and analytical outputs.
  • Collect, integrate, manage, and administer healthcare and operational data from multiple military databases.
  • Develop datasets supporting statistical modeling, epidemiologic analyses, and scientific publication.
  • Perform descriptive statistical analyses using SAS, SAS Enterprise Guide, SQL, and related analytical tools.
  • Prepare technical reports, scientific manuscripts, presentations, and briefing materials.
  • Present study findings to government leadership, technical working groups, and professional conferences.
  • Provide technical support for Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft SQL Server, and Adobe software used in research activities.
  • Document programming code, analytical workflows, and technical procedures in accordance with USAFSAM programming standards.

  • Experience with data visualization, dashboard development, or health informatics tools.
