ZAP Engineering and Construction Services, Inc. is seeking an EPC Project Assistant for our Lakewood, Colorado office. You will own weld map data entry, annotate NDT results, and build test books for hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, while supporting takeoffs and project controls.
This is an office-based role with a clear path into project controls and estimating. Ideal candidates have high attention to detail, the ability to read drawings and isometrics, and strong data-entry skills.
Weld Map Data Entry | WeldTrace | Test Packages | Quantity Takeoffs | Lakewood, CO
ZAP is a full-service engineering, design, and construction management firm servicing the oil & gas, heavy industrial, mining, and manufacturing sectors. From our Lakewood, Colorado office, we execute projects across North America, spanning from California to Florida and Canada down to Mexico. Our projects range in size from simple engineering studies or maintenance repairs to full-scale design of extensive facilities. ZAP operates at a fast pace while providing a team-centric approach to our work.
We are looking for a detail person who will own our weld maps — every weld annotated, every NDT result and material test report entered, and every diameter inch of progress logged in WeldTrace — and who can build and check a hydro or pneumatic test book that holds up. If you like the kind of work where the numbers either tie out or they don’t, we want to talk.
The EPC Project Assistant’s primary focus is weld map data entry in WeldTrace. You annotate the weld maps as the field completes work, enter welding and NDT (RT, UT, PT, MT) results against each weld, and enter material test report (MTR) and heat number data onto the weld maps so every weld is fully traceable. The weld progress the project team, the client, and our billing run on comes out of the data you enter.
From there the role extends into job preparation and piping test packages — building, editing, and checking the hydrostatic and pneumatic test books the field and the client sign off on — and into quantity takeoffs, where you take off concrete volumes, structural steel tonnage, pipe footage, and weld inch from the drawings and number the flanges that feed the torque log, to support estimates, budgets, and progress reporting. This is an office-based position in Lakewood, Colorado working Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and a direct path into project controls, estimating, QA/QC role.

These are the competencies that define an A-player EPC Project Assistant at ZAP. They are not aspirational — they are the bar.
Consistently checks and rechecks the work product for accuracy. Understands that one mis-keyed weld number or heat number becomes a traceability problem at turnover.
Enters hundreds of records a week without drifting. Fast is good; right is the requirement.
Lives in WeldTrace and keeps it clean. Enters progress and NDT results as they come in rather than catching up at the end of the month.
Reads isometrics, P&IDs, weld maps, line lists, and structural and civil drawings well enough to know when the paperwork and the drawing disagree.
Takes off concrete, steel, pipe footage, weld inch, and flange counts the same way every time, shows the basis, and produces a number someone else can check and trust.
Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness, looks for ways to improve and promote quality, applies feedback, and monitors their own work.
Checks a test package like the person who has to stand next to it. Chases the missing NDT report or MTR until it is in hand — nothing quietly dies in the inbox.
Follows instructions and management direction, takes responsibility for their own actions, keeps commitments, and completes tasks on time or raises an alternate plan.
Manages multiple projects and deadlines at once and takes responsibility for their own deliverables and timelines without daily direction.
Treats the weld maps and the quantity basis as theirs. Sees what is missing before being told and proposes the fix rather than waiting for the process to catch it.
The weld maps, the NDT results, and the traceability are yours. When a package turns over, it turns over because your data is right.
ZAP self-performs the work. The welds you log and the quantities you take off are going in the ground and up in the rack.
Weld data and quantity takeoffs are how this business measures itself — a deliberate launch point into project controls, estimating, or field engineering.
ZAP’s engineering organization and shared services stand behind the work — the stability of a proven firm at the pace of a startup.
