Job summary

ADM's Corporate Research Center in Decatur, IL seeks a Scientist I - Enzyme Assay and Screening to contribute to enzyme assay development and protein characterization within the Process Chemistry and Catalysis Group.

Under supervision, you will design experiments, perform enzyme activity assays, analyze data, collaborate across functions, and help advance product and process developments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field.
• Experience with UV-Vis instrumentation required.
• Experience with enzyme activity assays or protein characterization methods (SDS-PAGE, Bradford/BCA, or FPLC) preferred.
• Liquid handling robots experience a plus (Hamilton, Beckman-Coulter, Agilent, Opentrons).
• Ability to design and document experiments in an ELN.
• Knowledge of hazardous material handling and safety procedures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).
• Strong communication, organization, and attention to detail; work independently.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and use hand/power tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform all lab functions per safety guidelines and ensure adherence by others.
• Generate data to support enzyme process development and product pipeline.
• Develop experimental plans with a lead scientist to meet project goals.
• Conduct enzyme activity assays to support multiple projects.
• Analyze data using scientific and statistical methods.
• Communicate status updates verbally and via written reports.
• Maintain proper housekeeping and equipment in accordance with protocols.
• Collaborate with internal colleagues, contractors, and suppliers.
• Participate in safety reviews across projects.
