Job summary

Virginia Tech seeks an Environmental Technician to support erosion and sediment control (ESC) and stormwater management (SWM) across design, construction, operations, and maintenance. You will inspect construction sites, review plans, and develop outreach materials and training for stormwater education.

The role includes organizing public outreach, leading meetings with student groups on the MS4 Program, and assisting with MS4 documentation and procedures.

Qualifications

• Must interpret Virginia erosion and sediment control laws.
• Must have a valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to organize, prioritize and multitask.
• Within one year, obtain Virginia DEQ Combined Administrator certification for Erosion & Sediment Control and Stormwater Management.
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences or related field preferred.
• Experience inspecting construction sites for compliance with erosion and stormwater requirements.
• Proficiency with MS Office, BlueBeam, AutoCAD and ArcGIS.

Responsibilities

• Perform ESC and SWM inspections of construction sites.
• Review stormwater facility reports and plans.
• Inspect post-construction stormwater facilities.
• Develop training materials for stormwater education.
• Organize and lead outreach events and meetings with student organizations.
• Contribute to MS4 documentation and operating procedures.
• Conduct Outfall Reconnaissance Inventory.
• Support general office duties.
