Job summary

KEMRON Environmental Services, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Technician in Charleston, WV to support projects managed from our office, including state and federally regulated due diligence, brownfields remediation, UST compliance, and CERCLA/RCRA DoD projects across the Southeast.

You will assist with field sampling, data collection, O&M of remedial systems, and reporting, while complying with health, safety, and regulatory requirements.

JOB SUMMARY

The Environmental Technician with 0-5 years of experience provides general support for projects managed from our Charleston, WV office. The successful candidate will join the team and work on both State and Federally regulated projects, including State-regulated environmental due diligence, brownfields remediation, and underground storage tank (UST) compliance, as well as Federally regulated Department of Defense projects regulated under CERCLA or RCRA throughout the Southeast.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct assistance to Project Managers of underground storage tank (UST) and leaking underground storage tank (LUST) facilities including removals, corrective action, site assessment, and remediation.
  • Environmental media sampling (soil, groundwater, and vapor).
  • Remedial system installation, operation & maintenance (O&M), field sampling, and equipment maintenance.
  • Municipal wastewater treatment plant O&M.
  • Ensure compliance with all technical and regulatory requirements and sampling approaches to meet state and federal regulatory requirements and project-specific objectives, including permitting, planning and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Work with multidisciplinary project teams in the delivery of compliant and complete quality field data collection efforts.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing with project managers and field team leads regarding project field findings.
  • Comply with all applicable health, safety and quality requirements.
EDUCATION REQUIRED

High School Graduate or equivalent.

NECESSARY EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Current valid driver's license and ability to meet medical monitoring program and drug screening criteria.
  • The candidate must have the following personality traits:
    • Demonstration of a strong personal work ethic.
    • The ability to work independently as well as with small and large teams.
    • Well-developed organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
    • An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in environmental consulting or a related field. Specific experience that will be considered includes:
    • Field sampling of soil, water, and vapor.
    • Report writing for regulatory compliance.
    • Remediation system design, construction, and operation.
  • Bachelor's degree in a science discipline preferred but not required. Examples include:
    • Geosciences
    • Environmental or Civil Engineering
    • Chemistry
    • Environmental Science
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION WILL BE GIVEN TO CANDIDATES THAT HAVE
  • 40 Hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training (current).
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Must have the ability to work outdoors for extended periods, possibly in inclement weather conditions.
  • Must be able to travel to job sites and be able to traverse all types of terrain, often on foot, to access sampling sites and observe/lead field work.
  • Must be able to assess the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned tasks.
  • Must be able to understand and follow KEMRON SOPs for specific task(s).
  • Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
