Job summary

RJN Group, a leading employee-owned engineering and field services firm, seeks an Environmental Technician in Virginia to support field inspection of sanitary and storm sewers and other underground infrastructure.

Under the Field Manager, you will perform manhole inspections, smoke testing, dye water flooding, confined space entry, and assist with flow meters while ensuring safety and quality in every task.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Mechanical skills to handle hand and power tools.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proficiency with smartphones/tablets.
  • Physical and cognitive ability for confined space entry.
  • Ability to read and interpret sewer/road maps.

Responsibilities

  • Conduction of field inspection services such as manhole inspection, smoke testing, and dye water flooding.
  • Perform confined space entry work in manholes on a daily basis.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of flow meters.
  • Maintain and clean equipment and vehicles for safe, productive work.
  • Interact with clients and the general public professionally.
  • Follow RJN Group safety policies and SOPs.
  • Travel and work overtime as required.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Field Manager, the Environmental Technician will play an integral part in RJN’s success. They will assist with field inspection services in sanitary sewers, storm sewers, and other underground infrastructure.

Position Responsibilities
  • Conduction of field inspection services such as manhole inspection, smoke testing, and dye water flooding.
  • Perform confined space entry work in manholes on a daily basis
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of flow meters
  • Assist with maintaining and cleaning equipment and vehicles to ensure work can be performed in a safe and productive manner.
  • Interact with clients and general public in a professional manner.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures contained in the RJN Group, Inc. Safety Manual and Standard Operating Procedures
  • Travel and work overtime as required.
  • High School diploma or GED certificate from an accredited institution
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Mechanical skills- as you will be utilizing hand and power tools
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proficiency with smartphones and tablets (iPads, etc.)
  • Physical and cognitive abilities to perform confined space entry
  • Ability to read and interpret sewer and road maps
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience working within confined space entry
  • Experience working within a customer centric role
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.)

  • Physical demands: While performing duties of job, employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; squat or crouch in a confined space; climb ladders or steps; work with arms above head; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and tolerate working in heat or cold weather conditions. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. The noise level in the field environment is usually moderate. Employee may be required to be in a confined space for an extended length of time.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: None required in office. If working in field, must wear steel-toe boots, Class 2 or Class 3 safety vest, and high visibility T-shirt. Other PPE such as gloves, safety glasses, hard hat and other standard equipment used as needed.
