Job summary

Hennepin County Medical Center seeks an Environmental Services worker to organize and direct cleaning operations across the Downtown Campus. You will perform routine floor care, carpet cleaning, and surface disinfection, ensuring patient areas are safe and welcoming.

Expect physical tasks including standing, lifting, and moving furniture while following established guidelines. The position emphasizes reliability, teamwork, and attention to instruction, supporting a comprehensive benefits program

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to two years of high school.
  • An approved equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to deal effectively with patients, visitors and other personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Sweep, wax, buff, seal and mop floors to maintain cleanliness.
  • Vacuum, spot clean, and shampoo rugs and carpeting.
  • Clean windows, fixtures, furniture, ledges and walls; dust high areas.
  • Empty wastebaskets and ash trays; handle waste properly.
  • Disinfect lavatories and replenish supplies; restock as needed.
  • Move furniture to access areas for cleaning; assist with room setups.
  • Remove trash, bag and transport to staging areas per guidelines.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment; keep supply closets orderly.
  • Assist with emergency cleanup and routine sanitation tasks.
  • Prepare linen and trash for delivery to disposal areas; manage bags per policy.
  • Strip beds and OR tables; clean patient rooms and operating areas.
  • Clean walls, cabinets, lighting, sinks and rooms as required.
  • Dust ledges, vents, and railings; maintain clean corridors.

Job description

SUMMARY

Under general direction, performs work involving organizing, directing and coordinating the overall operations for Environmental Services operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Sweeps, strips, waxes, buffs, seals and wet-and-dry mops floors
  • Vacuums, spot cleans and shampoos rugs and carpeting
  • Washes and dusts windows, screens, light fixtures, furniture, ledges and walls
  • Empties wastebaskets and ash trays
  • Cleans and disinfects lavatory facilities and replenishes supplies
  • Moves furniture in order to clean
  • Picks up trash, empties contaminated materials into special containers and hauls to trash area
  • Cleans and washes equipment and keeps supply closet orderly and clean
  • Performs emergency clean ups
  • Mixes detergent solutions
  • Prepares linen and trash for delivery to Staging area-soiled utility rooms (linen and trash are bagged according to specific guidelines)
  • Strips patient beds and OR tables
  • Terminally cleans discharge patient rooms and Operating Rooms
  • Washes walls, fixtures, cabinets, overhead lights and sinks in the rooms
  • Dusts high ledges, vents and railings
  • Dry mops and washes floors and corridors
  • Empties, cleans and relines waste receptacles
  • Cleans and vacuums the Doctor's Lounge
  • Surface cleans all areas deemed necessary for cleaning
  • Removes intubation blade and brings to an area for decontamination
  • Performs related work as required, but only after appropriate training
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to two years of high school
  • An approved equivalent combination of training and experience

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to deal effectively with patients, visitors and other personnel
  • Ability to work independently in performing routine tasks
  • Ability to keep simple records
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, climbing and stooping

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous housekeeping experience
