Job Overview
Part‑time Environmental Services associate at Advocate Sherman Hospital. Hours: 24hrs/week; flexible schedule including alternate weekends, weekdays (3:00PM‑11:30PM), holidays, and other shifts as needed. Uniform provided. Pay range: $19.80‑$29.70 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and polish floors, carpets, and tile using mechanical and electrical equipment (e.g., vacuum, electric floor machines, sweepers).
- Analyze floor or carpet conditions to determine proper cleaning techniques.
- Sanitize areas after emergency spills and maintain a safe, orderly work environment.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment, keeping it clean and in good repair.
- Dispose of waste, including hazardous and medical waste, following hospital processes and DOT/RSPA training.
- Replenish and transport sharps containers to staging areas.
- Collect soiled linen and dispose of rubbish according to safety guidelines.
- Separate regular and recycled trash and operate waste compactors safely and efficiently.
- Sanitize all garbage/waste disposal containers.
- Provide excellent customer service, demonstrating patience and professionalism with patients, families, and hospital personnel.
- Use AIDET communication skills with internal and external customers.
- Resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively and support a positive environment.
- Assist with relocation of furniture and equipment as requested.
- Arrange furniture for meetings, workshops, and community affairs as directed.
- Complete terminal cleans, discharge room cleans, and OR cleaning following hospital processes.
- Attend mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and in‑services.
- Complete annual Certified Benchmark Training (CBT) and review goals annually with the manager.
- Seek educational and learning opportunities for professional growth.
- Maintain proper attendance and punctuality; adhere to hospital policy for time off and PTO.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
1–2 years of prior housekeeping experience preferred.
Basic computer skills preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficient at operating small electrical equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners).
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective English communication including reading and interpreting chemical labels and safety materials.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Walking, standing, bending, climbing, and lifting throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 35lb unaided; assistive equipment or another associate required for loads >35lb.
- Work conducted in a hospital environment with potential exposure to spills and hazardous materials.
