Job summary

St. Joseph Health in Bryan/College Station, TX seeks a dedicated housekeeping associate to perform daily cleaning and disinfection of patient rooms, corridors and common areas in alignment with CDC guidelines.

You will ensure safe handling of chemicals and proper storage of hazardous materials while supporting hospital operations and patient safety. You’ll contribute to patient experience and cleanliness metrics, adhere to safety policies, and participate in ongoing performance improvement

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Previous experience in housekeeping or commercial cleaning in high-traffic facilities such as hospitals, clinics, hotels, casinos, convention centers, schools, and the like.

Responsibilities

  • Complete daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas.
  • Follow health care cleaning and disinfection principles and requirements; display safe chemical use and equipment handling.
  • Adhere to organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines to promote a culture of safety; participate in performance improvement initiatives.

Responsible for completing as assigned, daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas. Performs duties while demonstrating a working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements. Displays safe chemical use and equipment handling for all items within the healthcare environment. Adheres to all organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety. Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.

  • Sanitize and disinfect specific areas such as patient rooms, nurse's stations, waiting areas, meeting rooms, offices, corridors, and common areas
  • Contribute to hospital efficiency and integrity by maintaining quality cleanliness in accordance with hospital and CDC guidelines
  • Understand and utilize all safety guidelines and procedures when using cleaning chemicals and disposing of hazardous materials
  • Inventory and ensure proper storage of hazardous materials for ignitability (flammable), corrosivity (rust), reactivity (explosive), toxicity (poison), etc.
  • Appropriately display signs to prevent injuries of patients, employees, and visitors such as slips and/or falls
