Job summary

St. Joseph Health is seeking a hospital housekeeping staff member to clean and disinfect patient rooms, nurse stations, waiting areas and other spaces. You will follow safety guidelines for chemicals and hazardous materials, and support safety and cleanliness metrics across the facility.

The role emphasizes proper storage of hazardous materials, sign placement to prevent injuries, and adherence to infection control standards in a busy healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Experience in healthcare or hospital housekeeping is preferred.
• Familiarity with CDC guidelines and safety practices is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment and common areas.
• Sanitize areas such as patient rooms, nurse stations, waiting rooms and offices per guidelines.
• Follow safety procedures when handling cleaning chemicals and disposing of hazardous materials.
• Inventory and store hazardous materials properly to prevent ignition, corrosion, or toxicity hazards.
• Post safety signs to prevent slips, trips and falls.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

Responsible for completing as assigned, daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas. Performs duties while demonstrating a working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements. Displays safe chemical use and equipment handling for all items within the healthcare environment. Adheres to all organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety. Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.

• Sanitize and disinfect specific areas such as patient rooms, nurse's stations, waiting areas, meeting rooms, offices, corridors, and common areas
• Contribute to hospital efficiency and integrity by maintaining quality cleanliness in accordance with hospital and CDC guidelines
• Understand and utilize all safety guidelines and procedures when using cleaning chemicals and disposing of hazardous materials
• Inventory and ensure proper storage of hazardous materials for ignitability (flammable), corrosivity (rust), reactivity (explosive), toxicity (poison), etc.
• Appropriately display signs to prevent injuries of patients, employees, and visitors such as slips and/or falls

Job Requirements Minimum Qualifications Preferred

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in housekeeping or commercial cleaning in high traffic facilities such as hospitals, clinics, hotels, casinos, convention centers, schools, and the like
