Job summary

St. Joseph Health is seeking a hospital environmental services attendant to responsibly clean and disinfect patient rooms and other areas within a healthcare facility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in housekeeping or cleaning in high-traffic facilities preferred.
• Ability to adhere to safety, infection-control guidelines and CDC/hospital standards.

Responsibilities

• Sanitize and disinfect patient rooms, nurses' stations, waiting areas, meeting rooms, offices, corridors and common areas.
• Maintain quality cleanliness per hospital and CDC guidelines to support hospital efficiency.
• Follow safety guidelines when handling cleaning chemicals and disposing of hazardous materials.
• Inventory and store hazardous materials safely (flammability, corrosion, reactivity, toxicity).
• Display warning signs to prevent injuries to patients, staff and visitors.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

Responsible for completing as assigned, daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas. Performs duties while demonstrating a working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements. Displays safe chemical use and equipment handling for all items within the healthcare environment. Adheres to all organization safety, risk management and infection control guidelines and standards while promoting a culture of safety. Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.

• Sanitize and disinfect specific areas such as patient rooms, nurse's stations, waiting areas, meeting rooms, offices, corridors, and common areas
• Contribute to hospital efficiency and integrity by maintaining quality cleanliness in accordance with hospital and CDC guidelines
• Understand and utilize all safety guidelines and procedures when using cleaning chemicals and disposing of hazardous materials
• Inventory and ensure proper storage of hazardous materials for ignitability (flammable), corrosivity (rust), reactivity (explosive), toxicity (poison), etc.
• Appropriately display signs to prevent injuries of patients, employees, and visitors such as slips and/or falls

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications Preferred:

• High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous experience in housekeeping or commercial cleaning in high traffic facilities such as hospitals, clinics, hotels, casinos, convention centers, schools, and the like
