Summary

The Environmental Services Specialty Lead supports the team that disinfects specialty areas such as Infusion Pharmacy, Sterile Processing, Operating Rooms, Procedure Rooms, and Cell Therapy. As part of the Spill Response Team, the Lead deactivates and decontaminates chemotherapy and other hazardous agent spills. The role is responsible for reducing the spread of bacteria and infection while maintaining an environment that appears clean, fresh, and polished. The Lead ensures all responsibilities are completed by opening and closing the shift, tracking Team Member progress, performing quality inspections, providing supplies and equipment, and driving team members from one location to another. The Lead informs the supervisor on the status of the team’s progress and assumes responsibility of running the shift in the absence of the Supervisor. The position also ensures adequate inventory levels, proper storage of supplies, machines, and floor cleaning equipment, and performs a variety of duties that support a clean environment for patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• High touch surface disinfection and cleaning.
• Properly clean and disinfect all types of areas including clinical inpatient/outpatient (patient rooms, exam rooms, nurse stations, etc.), support/common areas, offices, labs, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, corridors, and external grounds.
• Handle and dispose of medical waste and sharps, observing all required precautions, including properly tying and labeling bags.
• Use proper chemicals, tools, and equipment for each situation.
• Clean spills containing blood or other potentially infectious material using established infection control, safety, and ES departmental procedures.
• Occasionally travel to off‑site locations.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
• Follow departmental and other regulatory standards regarding all cleaning policies and procedures (using proper disinfectants, labeling chemical bottles, keeping an organized cart, etc.).
• Perform all essential functions following established safety and infection control requirements (perform hand hygiene, wear PPE, etc.).
• Follow instructions and guidelines set forth by Environmental Services management.
• Demonstrate competency by completing required departmental education and training.
• Represent the Environmental Services department positively and professionally at all times.
• Maintain positive relationships and good communication with patients, visitors, staff members, and those within the Environmental Services department.
• Report on all facilities/maintenance issues to Supervisor.

Minimum Experience Required

• Minimum two (2) years in Healthcare Janitorial / Environmental Services experience, including at least 6 months of proficient knowledge of a specialty area (e.g., terminal cleans), Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and at least 6 months of supervisory or lead/project lead experience (total experience required 2 years).
• Must show evidence of a good driving record and maintain a good record per Moffitt Policy.

Credentials and Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED.
• Florida Driver’s License (DL).
• Must complete Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) certification within 18 months of hire (certification will be tracked by the business).
