As Environmental Manager, you will oversee and manage the facility's Environmental Management System (EMS), systematically ensuring environmental compliance and driving progress against our sustainability goals - energy, water, and waste. You will serve as the plant's environmental advisor, change agent and specialist. In this position, you will flex a wide variety of skillsets, including tactical planning, creative problem solving, data analytics, reporting and people development. This role requires an insightful, organized and data-driven relationship-builder with working knowledge in environmental compliance and sustainability and technical proficiency in manufacturing systems.

How You Will Make Contributions That Matter...

As Environmental Manager for our Delhi (NY) and Newington (CT) sites, you will oversee implementation of Saputo's Environmental Management System at the facility to ensure we achieve our environmental objectives. This is a hands-on role that engages and collaborates closely with teams across the plant structure that includes operations, maintenance, sustainability, compliance, engineering, and sanitation.

Understand what the facility needs to accomplish, determine where to focus efforts and develop tactical plans for delivering on identified goals towards reduction of energy, water and waste.

Carry out the plans, both directly and indirectly by engaging and guiding other key players at the site

Seek out and advocate for the resources required to implement the facility's Environmental Management System (EMS), build EMS-related capability within the site through tools and training, and communicate the facility's environmental progress and impact to key internal and external stakeholders

Monitor and measure the facility's environmental KPIs to ensure plans are delivering the desired results and to cultivate insights into opportunities for improvement

Advocate and facilitate action for continual environmental performance improvement

While this role will focus on holistic environmental management across both the compliance and sustainability spheres, there will be a heavier near-term focus on building capability and driving performance improvements specifically related to environmental sustainability.

You Are Best Suited for the Role If You Have....

A bachelor's degree in environmental science, Environmental Management, Engineering or in a related field, or equivalent experience.

Knowledge of/experience in dairy industry is desirable.

At least 3 years of working experience in a manufacturing plant, with technical capacity for assessing and optimizing utility systems (heat & steam, compressed air, refrigeration, Clean in Place (CIP) systems, etc.), including know-how for calculating theoretical/actual performance improvements and associated savings.

Hands-on/Boot-on-the-ground problem solver with a coachable attitude.

We need someone who is highly motivated, can operate independently with little oversight, and with a strong practical reasoning ability to break down complex problems that can be solved with data, analysis, field work, and judgement.

  • Executing an effective resource conservation (energy/water/waste) program
  • Project management in a manufacturing setting
  • Collecting and analyzing KPIs for reporting and developing actionable insights

Someone who rallies the troops around the business benefits of the environmental program and is the spokesperson when presenting to key stakeholders (senior leadership, cross-functional teams, customers, auditors).

Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental standards and regulations.

Strong language skills: capable of reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Able to write reports, procedures, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, employees, and the public.

Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); working knowledge in data modeling/analytics; familiarity with Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs), process instrumentation and process drawings.

An ability to travel between site locations on a regular basis - at minimum, once per month (3-4 days).

Relevant professional environmental certifications such as the Association of Energy Engineers (AEEs), Certified Energy Manager or American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAEs) and Building Energy Assessment Professional a plus.

Working knowledge of relevant ISO standards (including the 14000 and 50000 family of standards) and understanding of programs like EPA Energy Star and Department of Energy (DOE) Better Plants Programs are a plus.

Salary Range: $90,000 - 105,000, plus bonusSalary offers may vary commensurate with experience, skills, education, and training.
