Job summary

Hillsborough County's Solid Waste Management Department seeks an Environmental Specialist (Tier 2) to support operations at the Southeast County Landfill. You will perform waste screening, inspections, and regulatory reporting to ensure compliance with Florida environmental regulations and county policies.

The role emphasizes safety, attention to detail, and clear communication with staff, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Proficiency with databases and office software is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a Natural Science.
• Two years of environmental inspection, sampling, testing, or evaluation.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; High School diploma/GED acceptable with experience.
• Valid Florida Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, sample, test, and evaluate in environmental pollution control and/or permitting programs.
• Conduct waste screening and sorting to identify prohibited, unauthorized, or recyclable materials entering the landfill.
• Perform routine inspections, document findings, and assist with regulatory reporting and permit compliance.
• Coordinate with landfill staff and contractors; support environmental programs and special projects.
• Maintain records, prepare reports, and assist with regulatory inspections and audits.
