Marathon Petroleum is seeking an Environmental Specialist in San Antonio, TX to lead waste technology strategy, advise on regulatory compliance, and drive refinery performance through strong operational and regulatory expertise.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with fifteen (15) years of relevant environmental experience in process industry (e.g., refining, midstream, petrochemical, or other heavy industrial).
• Bachelor's degree in a HESS related field, Engineering degree, or advanced degree with seven (7) years of relevant environmental experience.
• Detailed knowledge on current and proposed environmental rules and regulations with the ability to communicate impact plans to local leadership for budget development.
• Ability to review engineering designs and specifications to ensure compliance with appropriate environmental rules and regulations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of facilities and relationships with environmental rules and regulations with the ability to initiate steps that will avoid reoccurrence of environmental problems.

Responsibilities

• Waste Technology Strategy and Governance: Lead development and execution of waste technology strategies, business plans, goals, and best practices that support refinery performance and Company objectives.
• Site Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Participate in audits, conduct site reviews, develop scorecards, monitor progress against goals, and provide KPI, performance monitor, weekly, monthly, and senior management updates on waste-related performance, environmental issues, and initiatives.
• Technical Support, Optimization, and Troubleshooting: Identify and advance waste management projects, process improvements, and disposal opportunities that improve compliance, reliability, and operating performance.
• Regulatory Compliance and Legal Support: Develop compliance strategies for environmental regulations, complex project permitting activities, and emerging regulatory requirements; develop regulatory analysis and compliance strategy to assist Legal with regulatory interpretations and rule-related issues.
• Site Engagement, Training, and Knowledge Sharing: Mentor site environmental professionals by providing consistent tools, training, and guidance; oversee annual face-to-face meetings and monthly discussion forums for site waste management personnel.
• Vendor, Consultant, and Technology Partner Management: Manage corporate relationships with vendors, consultants, technology licensors, equipment providers, and suppliers; coordinate consultant activities, review technical work products, support software tool use, and evaluate new treatment and disposal technologies.
• Business Development and Innovation Support: Support business development opportunities and identify innovation opportunities through industry engagement, vendor literature review, technology evaluation, and collaboration with suppliers and external partners.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Refining Environmental group seeks to create maximum value for our shareholders through proactive unit optimization, exemplary environmental performance, and achieve "best in class" performance based upon reliability, safety, and environmental compliance. Refining Environmental provides technical expertise, operational support, regulatory knowledge, commercial support, process optimization, and technology support to Marathon's refineries waste handling operations.

The Environmental Specialist will report to the Refining Environmental Director for Wastewater and Waste Technologies. The Specialist role is the main conduit for helping sites in identifying and determining waste disposal options and making regulatory determinations to improve unit operation, performance, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will lead the Waste advisory group along with the Technology Manager and work with external licensors and vendors with the purpose of identifying innovation opportunities, sharing best practice and driving refinery compliance performance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Working knowledge of wastewater and equipment is preferred.

Pay Min/Max: $122,900.00 - $212,000.00 Salary
