Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a dedicated environmental services teammate to maintain cleanliness in assigned hospital areas. Responsibilities include sanitizing surfaces, restocking supplies, and ensuring infection control standards are met.

The role is full-time (40 hours) on the second shift (4:00 pm – 12:30 am) with every other weekend and holiday requirements. Competitive pay and benefits eligible are provided.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• One year experience preferred.
• Prioritizes assignments to complete work on time.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment.
• Good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs complete cleaning of assigned areas: dusting, sanitizing, cleaning fixtures and surfaces.
• Cleans floors, windows, walls, vents; restocks restrooms; replaces light bulbs; reports repairs.
• Handles waste, sharps, and hazardous materials with proper disposal methods.
• Keeps equipment clean and reports failures to maintenance staff.
• Maintains safe working environment, follows infection control guidelines and safety training.
• Meets time schedules and deadlines consistently.

Essential Functions

• Performs complete cleaning of assigned areas to include, but not limited to: dusting and sanitizing furniture, equipment, mirrors and fixtures; washing windows, walls, ceilings, vents and light fixtures; sweeping, scrubbing and refinishing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpet; re-stocking restrooms; replacing light bulbs; and reporting repairs.
• Heavy contact with cleaning chemicals, disinfecting agents, floor strippers and finishes. Majority of work is indoors but may assist with outdoor cleaning including parking lot, windows and roof. Various cleaning activities may include the use of a ladder.
• Removes waste by collecting and transporting soiled linen, emptying trash containers, changing sharps containers, transporting solid and hazardous waste to compactors, recycling material, and emptying cigarette receptacles in smoking areas.
• Keeps equipment associated with the job, clean and orderly, and reports equipment failures or other mechanical issues to maintenance staff.
• Maintains safe working environment and provides quality service by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, infection control guidelines, and meeting departmental quality standards.
• Attends all required in-service education and training classes including safety update programs to maintain technical knowledge.
• Consistently demonstrates the ability to meet time schedules and deadlines.
