Job summary

Parkland Health provides environmental services to ensure a clean, sanitary and safe hospital environment. The Environmental Services Technician works in the Main Hospital Building to support internal and external customers and may respond to bed-tracking needs for rapid room turnover.

Must follow oral and written directions and learn sanitation techniques with cleaning materials within ninety days; teamwork and safety are essential in this fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to follow both oral and written directions.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sanitation techniques, and the use of cleaning materials; 0R, learn the department's techniques and use of cleaning materials within a ninety-day period.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans assigned areas to assure the optimal clean, sanitary and safe environment for all internal/external customers of the hospital and Parkland.
  • Harmoniously works with all contacts inclusive of patients, visitors, hospital and Parkland employees and managers, to promote optimal customer services and customer satisfaction in accord with the missions and objectives of the department, the hospital and Parkland.
  • Maintains, correctly uses, and cares for all environmental services materials, equipment and supplies, and notifies supervisor when supply requisitions, maintenance, and/or repair is needed to assure the optimal usage of materials and safety for department services and resources.

Primary Purpose

Provides environmental services to PHHS units and departments and internal/external customers, Inclusive of some critical care areas, assuring sanitation, cleanliness, and safety in a timely manner and promotes harmonious relationships with all contacts.

Responsibilities
  • Cleans assigned areas to assure the optimal clean, sanitary and safe environment for all internal/external customers of the hospital and Parkland. Assigned duties may include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, collecting trash, bed area cleaning, buffing floors, detailing, etc. May be responsible for responding to and using the "bed tracking" system to assure immediate cleaning of rooms after patient discharge for the immediate availability of the room to newly assigned patients.
  • Harmoniously works with all contacts inclusive of patients, visitors, hospital and Parkland employees and managers, to promote optimal customer services and customer satisfaction in accord with the missions and objectives of the department, the hospital and Parkland.
  • Maintains, correctly uses, and cares for all environmental services materials, equipment and supplies, and notifies supervisor when supply requisitions, maintenance, and/or repair is needed to assure the optimal usage of materials and safety for department services and resources.
Job Accountabilities
  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
