Position

Environmental Service Technician

NC State’s Facilities Division seeks a passionate and detail-oriented Environmental Service Technician to help maintain over 10 million square feet of campus space, ensuring a safe and inviting atmosphere for students, staff, and visitors. You will join a dynamic team to grow your skills and contribute to our vibrant campus community.

With a team of over 320 professionals, you will have the opportunity to deliver exceptional service on one of the region’s most prestigious campuses.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize designated areas using standard cleaning assignments to maintain a safe and hygienic environment
• Report discrepancies, damages, or maintenance needs and respond to emergencies and inclement weather
• Operate housekeeping equipment (vacuum, mop, scrubber) to dust, disinfect, and replenish supplies
• Remove and manage recycling from centralized indoor recycling sites
• Occasionally shampoo and extract carpets, and assist with pressure washing of entrances, exterior walls, and windows
• Assist with window washing and other seasonal cleaning tasks
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public; follow verbal and written instructions
• Perform lifting duties up to 30 pounds frequently and 60 pounds occasionally; perform physical tasks such as grasping, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, bending, squatting, climbing, and balancing

Other Responsibilities

• Perform snow and ice removal in inclement weather and coordinate with coworkers during emergencies
• Participate in team cleaning tasks during breaks and when space is accessible
• May fill in for absenteeism outside of the assigned area
• May assist in stripping and refinishing floors
• Other tasks may be assigned based on organizational needs

Qualifications

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and ability to follow instructions with the capability to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Special certification may be required for some positions.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience performing housekeeping duties in a university or commercial environment
• Working knowledge of cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting techniques, including safe use of chemicals, equipment, and supplies
• Ability to operate housekeeping equipment (vacuum, mop, scrubber, pressure washers) and perform tasks such as floor stripping and refinishing, carpet extraction, window washing, and seasonal cleaning
• Ability to recognize and report discrepancies, damages, or maintenance needs; respond to emergencies and inclement weather; manage recycling and cleaning priorities
