Job summary

North Mississippi Health Services is seeking an Environmental Services Technician I to maintain a clean and safe inpatient environment. You will perform daily and special cleaning to meet safety and infection control standards and support delivery of high-quality care.

The role requires adherence to SOPs, strong communication, and teamwork to serve patients and staff across departments. Availability for required trainings and performance improvement activities is expected.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate both verbally and in writing; highly desired.
  • Good communication skills to effectively communicate with inter and intra departmental employees, patients and their family members, physicians, and the public; highly desired.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills needed to proficiently provide service to a customer population to include: neonates, infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily cleaning of assigned areas (patient rooms, bathrooms, emptying and cleaning trash receptacles, high dusting, sanitizing and spot cleaning, inspection and cleaning of empty patient rooms daily, washing and disinfecting hospital walls and ceilings).
  • Performs cleaning duties (including special cleaning and other area assignments) according to SOPs.
  • Adheres to general safety and infection control standards.
  • Performs responsibilities in a timely, efficient, cost effective, confidential and professional manner.
  • Attends, demonstrates, and participates in required inservices and education programs.

JOB SUMMARY

The Environmental Services Technician I at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for creating a clean and safe environment to support delivery of high quality care by performing daily and special cleaning that meets departmental procedure and safety and infection control standards. The Environmental Services Technician I remains adaptable and flexible to support team needs as they arise and participates in ongoing professional development.

JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Performs daily cleaning of assigned areas (patient rooms, bathrooms, emptying and cleaning trash receptacles, high dusting, sanitizing and spot cleaning, inspection and cleaning of empty patient rooms daily, washing and disinfecting hospital walls and ceilings) according to the standard operating procedures of the department.
  • Performs cleaning duties (including special cleaning and other area assignments) according to the standard operating procedures of the department.
  • Adheres to general safety and infection control standards.
  • Performs responsibilities in a timely, efficient, cost effective, confidential and professional manner conducive with the overall mission/vision of the hospital.
  • Performs other duties as assigned while demonstrating willingness, ability, and team spirit to provide optimal customer satisfaction.
  • Attends, demonstrates, and participates in required inservices, performance improvement activities (including EXCEL), and other educational programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent or GED equivalent. Required

Work Experience
  • Previous experience in the hospital setting. Preferred

  • Must assume primary accountability for performing daily cleaning of assigned areas (patient rooms, bathrooms, emptying and cleaning trash receptacles, high dusting, sanitizing and spot cleaning, inspection and cleaning of empty patient rooms daily, washing and disinfecting hospital walls and ceilings).
  • Must perform assigned cleaning duties (including special cleaning and other area assignments) according to the standard operating procedures of the department.
  • Must prioritize and make suggestions to his/her supervisor regarding periodical cleaning in assigned areas.
  • Must assume responsibility for reporting safety hazards, and cleaning emergency spills when sighted.
  • Must perform responsibilities in a timely, efficient, cost effective, confidential and professional manner.
  • Must have extensive contact with inter and intra departmental personnel, patients and their family members, physicians, and public.
  • Must have good communication skills and reflect a positive, caring attitude toward both staff and the public.
