Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health seeks an Environmental Services Technician to keep patient rooms and hospital areas clean and sanitized, protecting everyone from illness or injury. You will perform routine cleaning and use specialized methods to enhance sanitation, while learning proper biohazard disposal and PPE use.

You will also help maintain cleaning carts and supplies, refill dispensers, and deliver linens, contributing to patient safety and comfort in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Preferred: high school graduate with healthcare experience.
• Preferred: high school GED with healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize patient care areas and hospital spaces daily.
• Learn and apply proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials and sharp objects.
• Operate and maintain EVS tools and equipment used to clean and disinfect facilities.
• Restock soap, paper towels, and other supplies; deliver clean linens as needed.
• Maintain cleaning carts and equipment; follow infection prevention practices (PPE, hand hygiene, isolation precautions).
• Assist with conference room setups, stairwells and elevator cleaning, and hanging cubicle curtains; mentor new EVS staff.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Environmental Services Technician, you'll keep our patient rooms and all areas of the hospital clean and sanitized. This protects everyone from potential illness or injury due to infectious diseases or other hazards.

Every day, you will perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting. You will also use specialized equipment and techniques to further sanitize our facility. This role requires you to learn and adhere to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects. You may also refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and other supplies, as well as deliver clean linens.

• Responsible for completing as assigned, daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas.
• Performs duties while demonstrating a working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements. Displays safe chemical use and equipment handling for all items within the healthcare environment.
• Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
• Maintains cleaning cart(s), supplies, and equipment, as outlined in the Standard Work cart set up.
• Removes waste and transports to the appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream handling. Follows all infection prevention practices, including but not limited to: proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, proper donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Demonstrates the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.
  May be asked to perform tasks according to the various facility needs, including but not limited to: conference room set ups, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains. May be asked to mentor new Environmental Services Tech I employees.
