Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking an Environmental Services Technician to maintain clean and sanitized patient rooms and hospital areas. The role involves routine cleaning, use of cleaning equipment, and strict adherence to biohazard disposal and infection prevention protocols.

You will assist with maintaining supplies, mentoring new staff as needed, and supporting facility needs such as conference room setups and stairwell/elevator cleaning.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate General Studies with healthcare experience preferred.
  • High School GED General Studies with healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for completing daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas.
  • Performs duties with a working knowledge of health care cleaning and disinfecting principles, safe chemical use and equipment handling.
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
  • Maintains cleaning carts, supplies, and equipment as outlined in the Standard Work cart setup.
  • Removes waste and transports to the appropriate disposal area while following infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, PPE donning/doffing, and isolation precautions.
  • Operates and maintains EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.

Education

*Job Summary and Responsibilities*

As our Environmental Services Technician, you'll keep our patient rooms and all areas of the hospital clean and sanitized. This protects everyone from potential illness or injury due to infectious diseases or other hazards.

Every day, you will perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, or dusting. You will also use specialized equipment and techniques to further sanitize our facility. This role requires you to learn and adhere to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects. You may also refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and other supplies, as well as deliver clean linens.

  • Performs duties while demonstrating a working knowledge of the health care cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements. Displays safe chemical use and equipment handling for all items within the healthcare environment.
  • Actively participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives, including but not limited to initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
  • Maintains cleaning cart(s), supplies, and equipment, as outlined in the Standard Work cart set up.
  • Removes waste and transports to the appropriate disposal area while identifying proper waste stream handling. Follows all infection prevention practices, including but not limited to: proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, proper donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate and properly maintain all EVS tools and equipment needed to clean and disinfect the environment.

May be asked to perform tasks according to the various facility needs, including but not limited to: conference room set ups, cleaning of stairwells and elevators, and hanging of cubicle curtains. May be asked to mentor new Environmental Services Tech I employees.
