Job summary

Longmont United Hospital is seeking an Environmental Services Specialist to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, families, and staff. You will clean patient rooms, waiting areas, and operating spaces, upholding strict hygiene standards and infection control.

The role requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced healthcare setting while ensuring compassionate service to patients and visitors.

Qualifications

  • Must distinguish disinfection levels and perform low/intermediate disinfection.
  • Explain differences between disinfection levels in writing or verbally.
  • Experience using power floor machines, carpet cleaning equipment, vacuums, and sweepers.
  • Able to operate required cleaning equipment and devices.
  • Proficient with computers and mobile devices.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to organizational safety, risk management, and infection control standards.
  • Clean and disinfect specialty units and equipment.
  • Areas include Surgical Services, Labor Delivery, Critical Care, Endoscopy, MRI, Trauma, Cath Lab, NICU, Mental Health, and Burn Unit.
  • Follow infection prevention practices and proper PPE procedures.
  • Apply healthcare cleaning principles and safe chemical use.
  • Demonstrate training knowledge aligned with AHE, APIC, AORN, CDC, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Environmental Services Specialist, you will passionately provide a clean and safe environment for our patients, families, and hospital visitors, acting as a dedicated custodian of health and comfort.

Every day you will clean patient and waiting rooms, operating suites, and offices, ensuring all areas meet our high standards for hygiene and safety, thereby directly contributing to the well-being of everyone within the hospital.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a meticulous attention to detail, a strong work ethic, a commitment to cleanliness and safety, and a compassionate attitude toward patients and visitors, thriving in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

  • Adhere to all organizational safety, risk management, and infection control standards while promoting a culture of safety.
  • Responsible for cleaning and disinfection of specialty units and equipment.
  • Areas include but are not limited to Surgical Services, Labor Delivery, Critical Care, Endoscopy, MRI, Trauma, Cath Lab, NICU, Mental Health, and Burn Unit.
  • Follows all environmental and infection prevention practices (i.e., proper cleaning and disinfection protocols and processes, hand hygiene, standard and isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Performs duties while demonstrating working knowledge of healthcare cleaning and disinfecting principles and requirements, proper and safe chemical use, equipment handling, and laborsaving products for all items within the specialty environment tasked with servicing.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the training and education related to evidencebased recommendations in accordance with the Association for the Health Care Environment (AHE), Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC), and Association for Perioperative Nurses (AORN), CDC, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory bodies.
Job Requirements
Required
  • Can distinguish the differences between levels of disinfection and perform low and intermediate level disinfection
  • Ability to explain orally or in writing the differences between levels of disinfection and perform intermediate level disinfection in areas
  • Knowledge and skills in the use of power equipment, conventional and highspeed floor machines, carpet cleaning equipment, wet, dry and power vacuum equipment and push sweeper
  • Ability to operate necessary equipment/machines
  • Effectively uses computers and mobile devices
  • Respectfully listens to viewpoints and ideas of others
  • Communicates orally or in writing openly and candidly, creates an environment where coworkers and team members reciprocate in kind

Preferred
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Previous healthcare experience
