Job summary

The City of Ventura is seeking an Environmental Services Specialist to support solid waste, recycling, and environmental compliance programs within the Public Works Department, including CalRecycle reporting. This position plays a key role in supporting the City's solid waste, recycling, and environmental compliance programs, including CalRecycle reporting and ensuring compliance with applicable state waste and recycling regulations.Under direction, the Environmental Services Specialist assists with planning, implementing, and administering the City's environmental programs and performs a variety of research, analysis, and professional and technical administrative duties in support of environmental initiatives.Key responsibilities include:Develops, implements, and evaluates environmental programs related to sustainability, solid waste, recycling and waste reduction, energy efficiency, renewable energy, stormwater quality, water conservation, and resource management.Coordinates the City's solid waste, recycling, and waste diversion programs, including management of solid waste hauler and waste diversion facility agreements, contract administration, service issues, and program performance.Assists with CalRecycle reporting and ensures compliance with applicable state solid waste, recycling, and environmental regulations.Collects, analyzes, and interprets data; conducts research and program evaluations; prepares reports, recommendations, policies, manuals, and other technical documents.Coordinates environmental permits, grant administration, special projects, and other administrative activities in support of departmental programs.Develops and delivers public outreach and education programs, including presentations, special events, educational materials, and community partnerships that promote environmental sustainability.Responds to inquiries and complaints from the public and provides technical information regarding environmental programs and services.Performs other related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications – RequiredA combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in environmental studies, water resources management, public or business administration, or a closely related field; and one year of professional experience in researching, planning, or implementation of environmental management programs are required.When assigned to K-12 classroom presentations, incumbent is required to undergo live scan fingerprinting and provide proof of a negative tuberculosis test result issued within the last two years.Licenses: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver license may be required.About the DepartmentThe City of Ventura’s Public Works Department plays a central role in building, maintaining, and protecting the community’s infrastructure and natural resources.
