Position Overview:Manages the Environmental Services Department; establishes policies and procedures, objectives, and work standards. Maintains quality control and compliance with regulatory requirements. Coordinates and schedules Environmental Services projects.
Major Duties/Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Selects, trains/orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Develops departmental goals and objectives, and establishes and implements policies and procedures for department operation.
Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that department operates within budget. Directs the preparation and maintenance of department quality reports. Prepares periodic reports for administration as requested. Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates and supervises functions and activities of the Environmental Services Department to maintain the hospital environment in a sanitary, attractive, and orderly condition and comply with regulatory requirements. Schedules and supervises housekeeping functions and activities so as not to interrupt or interfere with patient care activities. Investigates and evaluates new housekeeping supplies and equipment and makes recommendations to administration. Inspects and evaluates the hospital's physical condition. Makes recommendations concerning painting, repairs, furnishings and furniture, relocation of equipment, and allocation of space to improve sanitation, appearances, and efficiency. Instructs personnel in use of new equipment, cleaning techniques/methods, and cleaning agents. Maintains inventory of cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment and oversees their replacement. Inspects housekeeping equipment for wear, tear, and replacement and prepares requisitions for maintenance or replacement. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. Participates in hospital/medical staff committee meetings as required. Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative.
