Responsibilities

  • Leads a team of environmental services workers, ensuring tasks are completed on time and to standard.
  • Delegates daily cleaning assignments to team members and ensures thorough cleaning.
  • Ensures patient rooms, bathrooms, common areas, offices, and hallways are cleaned per guidelines.
  • Performs advanced deep cleaning tasks (floor care, carpet cleaning, high-touch surface sanitation).
  • Maintains knowledge of infection control policies and minimizes infection spread.
  • Monitors supplies and equipment, manages inventory, and notifies supervisor when replenishment is needed.
  • Ensures cleaning equipment is maintained and coordinates repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Performs other duties and maintains reliable attendance.

Job Summary

The Environmental Services Worker Lead is responsible for leading a team of environmental services workers to ensure the cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of hospital or facility environments. This role includes overseeing daily cleaning operations, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, providing training and support to team members, and managing resources to maintain a high standard of cleanliness across all areas of the facility. The Environmental Services Worker Lead plays a critical role in supporting the hospital's efforts to provide a safe, hygienic, and comfortable environment for patients, staff, and visitors.


Essential Functions


  • Leads a team of environmental services workers, ensuring that all tasks are completed on time and to the required standards.

  • Delegates daily cleaning assignments to team members and ensure that all areas are thoroughly cleaned and maintained.

  • Ensures that all areas of the facility, including patient rooms, bathrooms, common areas, offices, and hallways, are cleaned and sanitized according to established guidelines and infection control standards.

  • Performs advanced deep cleaning tasks, such as floor care (stripping, waxing, buffing), carpet cleaning, and high-touch surface sanitation as needed.

  • Maintains knowledge of and adheres to hospital infection control policies, ensuring that cleaning processes minimize the spread of infections.

  • Monitors and manages cleaning supplies and equipment to ensure adequate resources for staff, maintaining inventory and notifying the Environmental Services Manager when supplies need replenishing.

  • Ensures cleaning equipment is properly maintained, coordinating repairs or replacements as necessary to ensure continued efficiency.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.


Qualifications


  • 3-5 years of experience in environmental services, housekeeping, custodial work, or healthcare facility maintenance required

  • 1-2 years of experience as a team lead or supervisor in a healthcare setting preferred

  • Experience in terminal cleaning, waste management, and advanced floor care techniques in a healthcare setting preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Advanced knowledge of floor care techniques, chemical safety, and infection control protocols.

  • Ability to operate and maintain floor cleaning machines, buffers, and other specialized cleaning equipment.

  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and hospital waste disposal regulations.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

  • Knowledge of infection control procedures, hospital cleaning standards, and safety regulations.

  • Ability to train, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to staff, ensuring consistent adherence to hospital cleaning standard.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.


Licenses and Certifications


  • CHEST - Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician preferred or

  • CHESP - Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional preferred
