Job summary

South Shore Health in Weymouth, MA is seeking a part-time Environmental Services worker to maintain aseptic conditions by cleaning patient rooms, hallways and hospital facilities. You will collaborate with nursing staff, respond to spills, and perform routine cleaning using standard agents while upholding HIPAA and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities include floor care, waste management, restocking, and assisting with periodic deep cleaning across the hospital, with weekend and holiday shifts

• Greets patients and visitors, adheres to HIPAA while assisting in routine cleaning and safety protocols.

Education

Cleans walls, lights, fixtures and furniture in all assigned areas of the Hospital to maintain an aseptic environment and prevent nosocomial infection through using standard cleaning procedures and chemicals. Cleans, waxes, extracts and maintains floors, carpeting and stairwells and assists with heavy cleaning throughout the Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates with the nursing staff and supervisor to clean occupied rooms first, checks empty rooms, attends to emergency cleaning for spills.


• Uses appropriate cleaning agents and techniques in washing and cleaning patient rooms daily. Bucket cleans patient rooms daily; damp mops or vacuums floors. Dusts furniture, ledges and bed table and removes debris. Empties, washes and relines wastebaskets. Spot washes walls and windows.

• Uses appropriate cleaning agents and techniques in washing and cleaning restrooms. Washes basins, commodes, tubs and showers, checking and cleaning mirrors, soap dishes, water pipes and exterior surfaces. Dusts ledges, damp mops floors and spot washes walls. Empties wastebaskets and relines. Refills toilet tissue, paper towels and soap dispensers.

• Vacuums, extracts, bonnet cleans and spot cleans all the carpeting in the hospital on an as needed basis.


• Hangs curtains (if needed) and checks the condition of their own equipment. (carts, vacuums, tools, etc).


• Cleans equipment upon return.


• Reports any maintenance or repairs needed immediately.


• Continuously displays a \\"can do\\" attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program in place at South Shore Hospital.


• When entering a patient room greets each patient giving your name. Same practice used when exiting room.


• When working or operating cleaning equipment in common areas, ceases cleaning, turns off machine, and gives assistance to patient/visitor who appears lost or in need of help.


• Acknowledges, not only the patient, but visiting family members/friends when servicing a room.


• Reports patient needs and requests to the nursing staff, when directed to the Environmental Service aide.


• Engages in simple conversation with patient/family (when appropriate) during the cleaning of the room without violating HIPPA..


• Uses appropriate cleaning agents and techniques in washing and cleaning a precaution (isolation) patient room. Bucket cleans patient rooms daily; damp mops or vacuums floors. Dusts furniture, ledges and bed table and removes debris. Empties, washes and relines wastebaskets. Spot washes walls and windows. Wearing the proper protective clothing during the process.


• Knowledge of the mixing of the cleaning agents and the proper use of each agent.

Minimum Education - Preferred

Equivalent to two (2) years of high school preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

Up to three (3) month to become proficient in all aspects of the position.

Requires ability to read and follow instructions.
