Job summary

Bridgeport Hospital is seeking an Environmental Services Technician to perform daily cleaning of patient rooms and hospital areas under the direction of the EVS Supervisor.

You will follow Sodexho Marriott Services and Bridgeport Hospital cleaning and infection control procedures, ensure safety, and support a clean, patient-centered environment.

Responsibilities include high/low dusting, trash removal, disinfecting surfaces, floor care, and reporting repairs; lifting up to 50 pounds is required.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must pass all pre-employment screenings as required by the client.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds; perform physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Clean patient rooms, nursing stations, lounges, restrooms, offices and corridors per procedures.
  • Maintain safety by following infection control and safety policies.
  • Operate cleaning equipment and report maintenance needs.
  • Attend scheduled meetings and in-services as directed by supervisor.

Under the direction of the EVS Supervisor, performs daily cleaning of patient rooms, nursing stations, lounges, restrooms, offices, clinic areas, corridors, stairwells, elevators, and any other assigned area. Clean in accordance with the standard cleaning and infection control procedures of Sodexho Marriott Services and Bridgeport Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • 1. CLEANING TECHNIQUES After initial training, performs the following cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and using prescribed methods: 1. High and low dusting. 2. Dusts horizontal and vertical surfaces. 3. Empties trash receptacles, removes trash, and relines container. 4. Damp wipes/disinfects furniture and surfaces. 5. Cleans and polishes bathroom and bathroom fixtures. 6. Dry mops or vacuums floors. 7. Wet mops/disinfects floors. 8. Burnishes/Refinishes floors. 9. Cleans wall surfaces and windows. 10. Polishes metallic surfaces. 11. Replenishes room supplies. 12. Performs check out or room discharge cleaning. 13. Shampoos carpets. 14. Collects bulk trash from soiled holding areas. 15. Inspects one’s own work for quality.
  • 2. MAINTENANCE & CLEANLINESS Performs all EVS related tasks with the appropriate sense of urgency and customer service orientation. Completes cleaning assignments within acceptable time parameters as established by the department director. After training, measures and dilutes cleaning chemicals appropriately and uses chemicals for their intended use. Maintains assigned equipment and work stations for cleanliness and reports repair needs. Assists in the cleaning of emergency spills when observed or upon request. Observes and reports the general need for repairs to equipment, furniture, building and fixtures.
  • 3. SAFETY Assure the safety of patients, staff and visitors through enforcement of department safety policies and procedures. Adheres to safety requirements when performing jobs using the following: Razors, scrapers, Vacuum, Auto Scrubber, Auto Burnisher, High Speed Burnisher, Buffer, Extractor, Cleaning Chemicals, etc. Demonstrates proper use of protective devices and clothing as prescribed necessary by the job: Jackets, Safety Gloves, Floor Signs, Shoes, Goggles, etc. Immediately reports all accidents and incidents to supervisor. Before seeking medical treatment, notifies supervisor of a work‑related injury. Keeps floor free from spills, trash or articles. Demonstrates safe lifting practices. Ability to demonstrate fire (emergency) evacuation plan. Adheres to lock out/tag out procedures.
  • 4. ADDITIONAL TASKS Performs any additional assignments as required by supervisor. Attends all scheduled meetings and in‑services as directed by supervisor/manager.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Special Skills: Ability to understand and speak English at a level that allows for safe efficient performance of assigned duties. Must pass all pre‑employment screenings as required by the client. After initial training, must demonstrate ability to use supplies, tools and equipment properly without waste or neglect. Ability to lift 50 pounds. Successful completion of department orientation.

Physical Demand

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds. The specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Incumbents as well as external and internal applicants who become disabled must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without the assistance of reasonable accommodation as determined on a case‑by‑case basis.
