Environmental Scientist - Regulatory Permit Specialist

Timmons Group is seeking a full-timeEnvironmental Scientistfor ourEnvironmental Grouplocated in ourRichmond, VAoffice location. The Environmental Scientist will be responsible for the development, submission, processing, and negotiation of issuance for permits associated with impacts to both federal and state waters. This individual is responsible for the completion of permits that will be submitted to and reviewed by entities such as the U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC), as well as Local Wetland Boards (LWB).

Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to the following:

  • Work with environmental staff in developing all aspects of Joint Permit Applications.
  • Interacting with Senior Scientists and Project Managers to better understand project components necessary for project permitting and completion.
  • Interacting and communicating with regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, and others.

Skills/Requirementsof a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

  • Must have a bachelor's or master’s degree in environmental science, Environmental Law, or policy related discipline.
  • Two to Four years of Environmental Science required.
  • Must have experience in the Natural Resources field with an emphasis on wetland and stream permitting and its associated regulatory processes involving but not limited to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC), and local wetland boards (LWB).
  • Firm understanding of regulatory processes related to surface waters in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Understanding of regulations associated with threatened and endangered species, as well as cultural resources is a plus.
  • Must be organized and possess strong verbal and technical writing skills, and be able to read technical literature and engineering plans.

Compensation:Our best estimate of the salary range for this position is $63,000-$68,000.This position is eligible for straight-time overtime. There may be flexibility on salary for experienced candidates. Offers are based on a range of job-related factors such as internal equity, experience, skills, education, credentials role complexity.
