Job summary

Apex Companies is seeking an Environmental Professional to join our team in the Carolinas as a Scientist 1 – Staff Scientist. You will perform site assessments, collect samples, and support remediation and groundwater studies, working with drilling subcontractors and field crews across the Southeast.

Ideal candidates have 0–1 years in environmental science, a BS in Geology or Environmental Science, and are willing to travel.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to learn technical software
• Field sampling experience or exposure is a plus
• Willingness to work outdoors in varied conditions and travel up to 75%

Responsibilities

• Perform site assessments and reporting in support of environmental due diligence and property condition evaluation programs
• Support site characterization, remediation, groundwater exploration, and aquifer studies
• Oversee drilling subcontractors and well construction
• Collect soil, water, air, and other environmental samples following established protocols
• Maintain and calibrate sampling and monitoring equipment
• Record and manage field data, notes, and photo logs
• Data evaluation; prepare tables, figures, and time-series graphs
• Assist with environmental report preparation
• Participate in occasional emergency response efforts related to petroleum or other releases in the Southeast

Your Role as an Environmental Professional

What We're Looking For

• Experience: 0-1 years in environmental science or similar
• Education: BS in Geology, Environmental Science or related field.
• OSHA 40-Hour and 8-hour refreshers a plus, but not required
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to learn technical software
• Field Expertise: Experience with or exposure to field sampling activities a plus. Willingness to be outside performing field work in the Carolinas and the Southeast.
• Other Requirements: Valid driver's license, strong safety record, ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Positive and proactive attitude with willingness to learn and support variety of projects.
• Physical & Travel: Ability to work outdoors in varied conditions, lift and transport equipment, and travel up to 75% for project support.
