Job summary

WGI seeks an Environmental Scientist in its Fort Lauderdale, FL office with 0–5 years of experience to support FDOT District 6 permitting for transportation projects in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

This entry-level role combines office and field work, collaborating with senior staff on wetland and species studies, data collection, and permit applications while supporting a dynamic team environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Knowledge of Florida and federal permitting rules is a plus.
• Ability to identify Florida trees and wetland plants.
• Must be able to collect data in hot and difficult field conditions including remote and swampy places.
• Excellent technical writing skills and communication skills.
• Experience with GIS or AutoCAD is a plus.
• PADI or NAUI certifications preferred, but not required.
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

• Assist with transportation projects by coordinating with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, planners, and surveyors
• Collect field data such as soil and groundwater sampling, tree surveys, wetland assessments, protected species surveys, and gopher tortoise relocation
• Conducting benthic resource surveys (seagrasses and corals)
• Analyze data, prepare graphics, write technical reports, and prepare environmental permit applications
• other responsibilites as assigned by the manager
