Job summary

Hawaiian Electric seeks an Environmental Scientist or Senior Environmental Scientist to support air quality programs and regulatory permitting for electric utility facilities across Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii Island. You will provide regulatory expertise, manage projects, and help implement training and environmental reviews.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s in science/public health or engineering, 3–7 years of experience, and strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant science, public health or engineering; graduate degree preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
• Experience with environmental regulations and project management.
• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and databases.
• Must have or be able to qualify for a Hawaii driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide regulatory and technical expertise in air quality and environmental programs.
• Lead project teams and manage program requirements, schedules, and budgets.
• Develop and implement environmental compliance training for facilities.
• Prepare permit applications and testimony for regulatory approvals.
• Coordinate data gathering, reporting, and liaison with regulatory agencies.
