Job summary

Benesch is seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our Natural Resources team. The entry-level role supports project managers on wetlands, threatened and endangered species, and water resource permitting issues, with office or remote office work and occasional field tasks.

The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and able to navigate multiple complex projects while communicating effectively and taking initiative.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences with 1–4 years of relevant work experience.
• Experience with wetland delineation and botanical surveys is preferred.
• Familiarity with state and federal environmental permitting processes.
• Strong technical writing and data quality assurance skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct fieldwork tasks such as wetlands delineations and environmental surveys.

• Travel frequently, including overnight stays within and outside the state.

Environmental Scientist

We are seeking to hire an entry-level Scientist to join our robust Natural Resources. This position will assist project managers with natural resource-based projects involving wetlands, threatened & endangered species, and water resource permitting issues.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to be highly organized, multi-task, and navigate various complex projects. This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills, effective communication abilities, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to taking initiative. Primary duties are located within an office or remote office environment with occasional fieldwork.

Location

The position will report out of our Omaha, NE, Lincoln, NE, Bellevue, NE, or Grand Island, NE office.

The Impact You Will Have

• Conduct fieldwork tasks such as wetland delineations, natural resources inventories, and environmental surveys.
• Provide technical support for permit compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Be prepared for frequent travel, including overnight stays both within and outside the state.
• Assist project managers with various tasks to ensure project success.
• Manage project schedules and budgets to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
• Contribute to project proposals and collaborate with team members.
• Stay updated on federal and regional regulations.
• Build relationships with relevant agencies and represent Benesch as a subject matter expert.
• Promote a culture of safety awareness and professionalism in the workplace.

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences with 1-4 years of relevant work experience.
• Prior experience in wetland delineation, botanical surveys, and surveys related to threatened and endangered species.
• Familiarity with native vegetation identification and state and federal environmental permitting.
• Previous experience in renewable energy projects is a plus.
• Knowledge of state and federal permitting processes is desired.
• Proficiency in technical writing and experience in quality assurance/quality control of data and reporting are essential.
