Job summary

Benesch is seeking an entry-level Environmental Scientist to join its Natural Resources team. The role supports project managers on wetlands, endangered species, and water resource permitting tasks, primarily in an office or remote office with occasional fieldwork.

The ideal candidate holds a biology or environmental sciences degree and has 1–4 years of related experience, strong analytical abilities, and solid writing skills. Travel within and outside the state is possible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences, 1–4 years of relevant work experience
• Experience with wetland delineation and botanical surveys
• Familiarity with native vegetation identification and regulatory permitting processes
• Technical writing skills and data reporting experience required
• Renewable energy project experience is a plus

Environmental Scientist

We are seeking to hire an entry-level Scientist to join our robust Natural Resources. This position will assist project managers with natural resource-based projects involving wetlands, threatened & endangered species, and water resource permitting issues.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to be highly organized, multi-task, and navigate various complex projects. This role requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills, effective communication abilities, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to taking initiative. Primary duties are located within an office or remote office environment with occasional fieldwork.

Location

The position will report out of our Omaha, NE, Lincoln, NE, Bellevue, NE, or Grand Island, NE office.

The Impact You Will Have

• Conduct fieldwork tasks such as wetland delineations, natural resources inventories, and environmental surveys.
• Provide technical support for permit compliance and regulatory requirements.
• Be prepared for frequent travel, including overnight stays both within and outside the state.
• Assist project managers with various tasks to ensure project success.
• Manage project schedules and budgets to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
• Contribute to project proposals and collaborate with team members.
• Stay updated on federal and regional regulations.
• Build relationships with relevant agencies and represent Benesch as a subject matter expert.
• Promote a culture of safety awareness and professionalism in the workplace.

What We Are Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Environmental Sciences with 1-4 years of relevant work experience.
• Prior experience in wetland delineation, botanical surveys, and surveys related to threatened and endangered species.
• Familiarity with native vegetation identification and state and federal environmental permitting.
• Previous experience in renewable energy projects is a plus.
• Knowledge of state and federal permitting processes is desired.
• Proficiency in technical writing and experience in quality assurance/quality control of data and reporting are essential.
