Job summary

Jobtailor in Schaumburg, IL seeks an experienced Environmental Project Manager to lead complex site assessments, regulatory compliance, and client relations. You will oversee budgets, schedules, and contracts while guiding a team of professionals through Phase I/II initiatives and site remediations.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years in environmental or PM roles, with a PM certification and a Professional Geologist license applicable to Illinois.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (ideally).
  • 7+ years of environmental or PM experience, preferably in consulting.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of Illinois regulatory guidance including LUST and Site Remediation.
  • PM certification and professional geology licensure in Illinois are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and execute environmental projects including Phase I/II assessments and permitting.
  • Develop new clients and maintain relationships with key decision makers.
  • Oversee project resources, invoicing, scope, and budgets.
  • Maintain schedules and meet deliverable deadlines.
  • Prepare client contracts, statements of qualifications, and fee proposals.
  • Communicate complex ideas to clients and team members.
  • Act as client liaison to solve problems and capture opportunities.
  • Coordinate site visits and fieldwork as needed.
  • Supervise direct reports and ensure quality control.
  • Stay informed on environmental markets and technology trends.

Job description

  • Plan, design, and execute environmental projects, including Phase I and Phase II site assessments, brownfield redevelopment, regulatory compliance, and permitting
  • Develop new clients and maintain existing client relationships with key decision makers and influencers
  • Oversee project resources, client invoicing, scope, and budgets
  • Maintain project schedules and meet deliverable deadlines
  • Prepare client contracts, statements of qualifications, and fee proposals
  • Communicate ideas and concepts to coworkers and clients on sensitive and complex matters
  • Act as client liaison, understand client needs, solve problems, and capture opportunities
  • Conduct site visits and complete fieldwork as needed
  • Perform project and client quality control
  • Maintain understanding of environmental markets, clients, technology trends, and advancements
  • Attend meetings, community events, and industry events
  • Research industry trends and share information with the team
  • Supervise direct reports
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Biology, Ecology, Physical Science with an emphasis in environmental engineering, or a related degree (ideally)
  • Seven or more years of environmental or project management experience, preferably at a professional consulting firm
  • Proven track record of managing multiple clients and projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of state regulatory agency guidance, including Illinois Leaking Underground Storage Tank and Site Remediation Programs
  • Project Management certification
  • Professional Geologist License in Illinois
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software and tools
  • Ability to travel to client sites and firm locations
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and coworkers at all levels
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a solutions mindset
