Job summary

Essel is seeking a qualified environmental professional with 4+ years of experience to conduct Phase I ESAs, Phase II investigations, and multi-media sampling across Northern California. You will prepare logs, write reports, and assist in vapor intrusion mitigation system concepts and detailed designs under a licensed professional engineer.

The role combines office and field work, with potential long days at job sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology or related field required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related environmental experience required.
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER training preferred.
  • Professional certification (PE/PG) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Investigations following ASTM Standards.
  • Perform multi-media sampling (soil, soil vapor, groundwater, indoor air, methane, surface water, sediment, etc.).
  • Prepare lithological and boring logs; write reports and supporting documents.
  • Design vapor intrusion mitigation systems under supervision of a California Registered PE.
  • Coordinate field work across Northern California and manage field days as needed.
  • Prepare proposals and budgets; oversee small to mid-size projects and assist on larger projects.
  • Balance office work with field presence; communicate status, schedules and compliance with clients and regulators.

Job description

Responsibilities

  • Multi-media sampling (soil, soil vapor, groundwater, indoor air, methane, surface water, sediment, etc.)
  • Lithological logging and boring log preparation
  • Report writing and preparation of supporting documentation
  • Preparation of Vapor Intrusion Mitigation System Conceptual and Detailed designs under the supervision of a California Registered Professional Engineer.
  • Potential for long field days and work at job sites throughout Northern California may be required with this position
  • Proposal and budget preparation and management
  • Project management of small to mid-scale projects and provide support on larger projects
  • A mixture of office and field work is expected, with an emphasis on office work
  • Communicate project status, schedules and compliance issues with clients, third parties, and regulatory agencies
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology or related field required
  • Minimum of 4 years of related environmental experience required
  • Microsoft Office and computer programs (AutoCAD, Surfer, and/or ArcGIS preferred), field equipment experience preferred
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER training preferred
  • Professional certification (PE/PG) preferred
  • Knowledge on remediation systems and vapor intrusion mitigation systems preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with driving record in good standing required
