Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating environmental compliance, remediation and company support for operating segments and construction projects through the application of knowledge and experience of compliance and environmental programs in accordance with the company mission, vision, and values. The role owns industrial discharge water, stormwater, and waste programs including permitting, monitoring, reporting, and corrective action management.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Water & Waste Program Ownership
    • Own and oversee industrial discharge water, stormwater, and waste compliance programs.
    • Serve as primary owner for site water, stormwater, and waste compliance programs (TPDES, MSGP, SWPPP, SPCC).
    • Ensure compliance with permit conditions through sampling, inspections, monitoring, and data quality review.
    • Manage Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) testing, and regulatory submittals.
    • Lead investigations, corrective actions, and documentation for permit exceedances.
    • Coordinate contractor and laboratory support for sampling, inspections, and water & waste activities.
    • Maintain audit‑ready compliance records and documentation.
    • Provide regulatory interpretation and support related to Water of the State and Water of the United States applicability.
    • Partner with Operations to identify risks, improve system performance, and prevent repeat compliance issues.
    • Own waste management programs, including waste characterization, profiling, manifest QA/QC, vendor management, and disposal compliance.
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Mentor and onboard new employees on compliance requirements and organizational procedures.
    • Evaluate operating and project data for quality and accuracy relative to operating parameters or construction specifications.
    • Coordinate field inspections at operating assets and construction projects to identify compliance improvement opportunities.
    • Ensure corrective actions are sustainable and provide ongoing compliance.
    • Participate in internal audits of facilities outside the area of responsibility.
    • Act as primary representative for the company in verbal and written communication with agency representatives.
    • Coordinate and facilitate environmental permitting for maintenance, growth, and large capital projects.
    • Facilitate multiple environmental programs within operating assets or construction projects.
    • Oversee field‑based contract and consultant resources for compliance support.
    • Support less experienced professionals in developing requests for proposals, proposal evaluation, and work authorizations.
    • Initiate or author permit applications for new construction and operating assets and review permit conditions for consistency with operating or construction parameters.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations and their applicability to operations.
  • Ability to analyze, research, compile, and prepare permit applications, logs, reports, and correspondence.
  • Ability to evaluate, research, and interpret governmental regulations, equipment performance manuals, and regulatory agency guidance.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Application of math, algebraic formulas, and statistics.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, including presentations and training materials.
  • Fundamental technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency with office equipment and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Operation of relevant tools and equipment; ability to work in elevated locations.
Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in environmental, natural science, or engineering preferred, and/or a combination of formal education and 3‑5 years related experience in environmental compliance.

Licenses and Certifications

None required.

Physical Demands

Light work: requires walking, standing, and occasional lifting or carrying, with minimal physical force. Occasional work in elevated locations, ladders, and confined spaces. Frequent exposure to repetitive motion and prolonged use of computer monitors.
