Job summary

The State of California, Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), is seeking an Environmental Scientist to provide technical expertise and science communication in rulemaking related to hazardous waste management, site mitigation, and consumer product chemicals. This role involves collaboration across offices and preparing technical documentation for policy development.

Based in the DTSC Headquarters in Sacramento with potential hybrid telework, the position offers a pathway for multiple

Qualifications

General experience in science policy
Experience working in the development, review, implementation, and/or enforcement of regulations
Customer service experience

Responsibilities

Provide technical expertise and science communication in rulemaking related to oversight of hazardous waste management, site mitigation activities, and chemicals in consumer products.
Collaborate with multiple offices (Office of Environmental Equity, Office of Legislative Affairs, Office of Communications) on communication for controversial rulemaking packages.
Prepare written documentation (executive summaries, issue papers, technical reports, memos) to convey findings and recommendations for policy development and decision making.
Assist the Chief of Staff and Director’s Office in compiling information for reports and updates.
