Job summary

Barr’s permitting and compliance consulting team is seeking a motivated chemical or environmental engineer to help clients determine applicable environmental regulations and ensure facilities stay compliant. You will work on permitting projects across fuels, mining, manufacturing, and power sectors, applying technical knowledge to develop compliant, flexible solutions.

The role emphasizes problem solving, proactive communication, and collaboration with project teams, regulators, and clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or environmental engineering or related field.
  • Minimum internship/coop/post-college experience in industry, agency, or consulting.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and communicate priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret environmental regulations related to air, water, and waste.
  • Calculate emissions and discharges and develop compliance strategies.
  • Support development of practical compliance strategies for industrial clients.
  • Prepare regulatory and technical analysis memos.
  • Prepare routine compliance submittals and develop compliance tools.
  • Compile information for environmental permit applications.
  • Strategize to minimize environmental impacts.
  • Communicate progress and potential issues clearly with project teams.
  • Provide on-site client support as needed (travel may be required).
