Job summary

Plains is seeking an entry-level Environmental Permitting Assistant to support permitting for pipeline and facility projects in the Southwest Division, mainly in Texas and New Mexico. The role can be based in Houston or Midland, with opportunities to work closely with senior staff.

Responsibilities include coordinating with consultants, tracking deliverables, and assisting with NEPA and various agency requirements.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in environmental permitting or regulatory compliance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Interest in environmental permitting and regulatory compliance.
  • Basic knowledge of NEPA, Clean Water Act (CWA), and Endangered Species Act (ESA).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing.
  • This position is not eligible for employment-based visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of their employment

Responsibilities

  • Support environmental permitting for projects on federal, state, and private lands
  • Assist with NEPA compliance, BLM, and New Mexico SLO requirements
  • Coordinate with external consultants to compile environmental and permitting documents
  • Support compliance with BLM, SLO, USACE, and USFWS requirements
  • Establish a working relationship with regulatory agency personnel
  • Coordinate with internal project teams to support routing guidance and schedules
  • Track environmental deliverables, permit status, and agency requests
  • Maintain organized project files and records
  • Support Oracle invoicing and purchase order (PO) tracking
