Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science from ABET-accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, Washington Accord, or substantially equivalent per ABET.
  • MS in Engineering/Physical Science is acceptable, or a PhD in Engineering/Physical Science.
  • There is a GPA requirement for up to 4 years post-graduation; specific GPA thresholds apply by degree level.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets federal and state laws, regulations, and orders as they apply to environmental practices.
  • Implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensures inspections are conducted, corrective actions completed, and documentation kept.
  • Investigates compliance problems and communicates guidance to management.
  • May develop programs to increase employee awareness of compliance policies.
  • May audit policies and documents for regulatory adherence; does not litigate.
  • Interacts with state, federal, and local organizations on regulatory changes affecting waste management and minimization.

What You'll Do
  • Interprets federal and state laws, regulations, and orders as they apply to environmental practices
  • Implements policies and procedures to ensure that these practices are in compliance with the appropriate statutes and regulations, and regulatory reporting requirements are met
  • Ensures that inspections are conducted, corrective actions are completed on time, and all necessary documentation is kept
  • Investigates and resolves compliance problems, questions, or complaints received from within the company, customers, government regulatory agencies, etc.
  • May develop and implement programs designed to increase employee awareness and knowledge of compliance policies
  • May audit and evaluate current policies, procedures, and documentation for compliance with government laws and regulations; does not litigate
  • Interacts with state, federal and local organizations to maintain an awareness of, and exert influence on, regulatory as well as plant standard changes concerning waste accumulation, disposal, and minimization
  • Conveys pertinent environmental information and guidance to laboratory management and personnel promoting environmental excellence
  • Provides support and guidance on waste minimization and accumulation activities
  • Assists training personnel to determine environmental compliance training needs
  • May review some technical procedures to ensure that pertinent environmental and 90 days areas, one year and 30 days PCB storage areas are operated and maintained properly
  • Assists waste management personnel in completion of disposal forms
  • Ensures that waste generated is adequately characterized, documented, segregated, packaged, labeled, and stored in accordance with approved procedures and environmental regulatory requirements governing Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), mixed, and radiological wastes
  • Develops, implements, and maintains written organizational procedures in the areas of RCRA, TSCA, and Spill Prevention, and assists in training on these procedures

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Physical Science [Chemistry, Physics, or related] from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET. OR MS in Engineering/Physical science. OR PhD in Engineering/Physical science.
  • There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
    • 3.0/4.0 minimum cumulative GPA for Bachelor degree
    • 3.3 minimum cumulative GPA for Master degree
    • 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA for PhD
